How to deal with menopause

Menopause is the term used to describe the stage in women’s life when menstruation stops. Some of the common signs of menopause includes stress, hot flashes, mood swings, depression, anxiety, low energy levels etc. The best way to cope up with these signs includes meditation, taking medication, moderate physical activities like walking or jogging, eating well. Here are some ways to deal with menopause.

Relax and destress

Menopause can be stressful so it is important to relax both your mind and body. Meditation is one of the best form of relaxation. It can help in relaxing your body and calming your mind. Physical activities and exercises like walking, jogging and yoga can help in rejuvenating. Hobbies like gardening and painting can be pursed to keep you occupied.

Medication to cope up with some of the signs

When there is a sudden depletion of hormones (estrogen and progesterone), body will find it very difficult to cope up with the changes. Most of the menopausal symptoms like mood swings and depression are effect of lack of these hormone. A hormone replacement therapy for a short period can be very helpful. This involves administration of estrogen in very low doses. Some anti depressants are also prescribed by docters if the patient suffers from severe mental depression. Alternative therapies like aromatherapy, acupressure, ayurvedic massage can help in alleviating the symptoms.

Healthy diet

Healthy balanced diet can do lot of good. Calcium and vitamin D rich food like milk is a must. Diet rich in nuts, oily fishes (especially salmon) and egg can be highly helpful in dealing with menopausal symptoms. Avoid drastically changing your food habits during this period when the body is less flexible. Food rich in trans fats like fries, pastries, doughnuts, pizzas can increase your discomfort. Avoid spicy foods during this period. Drink lot of water and keep yourself hydrated. Drinking herbal tea, ginger-lime tea and green tea can also be beneficial.
