Kaudulla National Park – Sri Lanka

Kaudulla National Park

Kaudulla National Park is one of the most visited parks of the country. It is located in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. Established in 2002, the park is a wonderful ecotourism destination. The main motive of this park was to provide protection to migrated elephants. Kaudulla National Park provides shelter to elephants at the time when water dries up in other national parks of the country.

Every year, more than 10,000 people visit here to see animals like elephants, sambar deer, leopards, monkeys, and sloth bears. Kaudulla National Park is also recognized as an “Important Bird Area,” which means it is a safe place for different bird species.

The weather and climate of the place shows remarkable rainfall. It receives 59 – 79 inches of rain annually. Most people can prefer rainy season as it is the perfect time in which they can spot elephants and other animals.

Kaudulla National Park is governed by Department of Wildlife Conservation, which offer various adventurous, environmental, and educational programs for children and their parents. Lodging facility is also available outside the park.  It is a perfect place to explore nature and wild animals together.
