How to deal with mean parents

Parents are always protective and loving towards their children. However, there are cases wherein some parents are mean. In such cases, one needs to act cautiously by following certain steps.

Never antagonize them

This behavior of yours could make things difficult and worsen the situation between you and your parents. If you ever happen to hurt them or offend them by any of your actions, apologize to them and accept your fault. This would create a sense of responsibility and concern in your parents which would in turn change their behavior towards you. Annoying them, on the contrary, would mean disturbed relationship between you and them. Always try to accept your shortcomings and discuss them with your parents clearly. They would rather feel respected and happy with this kind of a behavior.

Reason with them

Most of the times, mean parents do not allow their children to do certain things in life, such as, outing with friends, watching movies, going for a party, college dances and other functions. In such cases, one should maintain his calm and let the parents know your interests and importance of such things. Once they agree, let them know the approximate time you would be back home and try to follow the same schedule. Plan out a schedule together and follow that religiously. Your honest approach towards whatever you say and promise would definitely allow them to reconsider their decision.

Act smartly

At times, your parents would act in an altogether different manner and say something which would be completely unreasonable and mean. In such a scenario one should act with extreme care and precaution. Getting angry with them and showing your frustration in this case would never help. You should always try to hide the fact that whatever they are saying is unreasonable and cannot be accepted. Do not ever bring it up so as to avoid difficult consequences and arguments with your parents. While you decide to come up with a decision in such cases, try and involve any of your most trusted friends to get a second thought and opinion. The third person perspective of such a friend is going to be helpful for you.
