How to deal with stage fright

If your heart pounds, legs and hands shake, or mouth dries while you are on stage to present something, do not let it become a problem for you. There are ways to handle these types of fears and here we have given some of them.

Practice makes you perfect

You get feared on stage when you feel you do not have an answer to some question the audience may ask during a presentation or when you do not practice your speech well before delivering it in front of some experts judging you. There are several such situations when you perform or present on stage and just lose confidence because you have not practiced the content or skill well. Do not take this aspect lightly as this is the key to remove your stage fright. Always know and understand your content properly so you get to practice it well before you finally present it before your audience. This will boost your confidence and remove any stress or discomfort while presenting.

Do not underestimate yourself

Do not forget that you are an expert of what you are presenting and that is the reason you are standing on the stage to display your talent. Whether it be acting or dancing, or giving a speech or business presentation, you may practice the visualization exercise before appearing on stage. Try to visualize yourself in positive situations, such as the audience clapping on your performance or the happy faces of audience while you celebrate an act that is beautifully completed. It will give you a sense of peace and you may complete your task in a calm manner.

Exercise to refreshen up

Try deep breathing exercises to get relieved of tension or stress in your mind. These exercises make you feel fresh and rejuvenated with energy. You should also develop a habit of exercising regularly during the week or taking up other activities that help you throw away your anxiety. Go for jogging, walks or biking. A day before your stage performance, go out and meet people in your surrounding. This will help you open up in front of your audience too.
