How to make your child’s hair grow faster and thicker

A kid’s hair will grow only a quarter of an inch every month. The individual strands of hair would grow out of follicles, the size of which would depend the texture of the hair. Accordingly, the bigger the follicle, the thicker is your hair. Moreover, the smaller the follicle, the finer is your hair. In addition to this, several other factors would also contribute to hair growth in children. Here are some of them.

Step 1: Dietary Considerations

A child’s overall health would reflect in his/her hair. Feeding him/her junk food and carbonated drinks would make his/her hair become dry and brittle very soon. A healthy diet is essential for hair growth. The diet should essentially contain nutrients like Vitamin A (found in yellow and orange fruits and vegetables) which improves the health of the scalp glands, Vitamin E (found in green leafy vegetables) which boosts hair quality, Vitamin C (found in citrus fruits, strawberries and tomatoes) which prevents damage, and silica (found in beets and alfalfa).

Step 2: Eggs

The protein found in eggs can aid hair growth in children. Eggs also contain high amounts of an amino acid called L-Cysteine as well as other nutrients like biotin and manganese that promote hair growth and help prevent damage. Eating eggs first thing in the morning is good for hair growth.

Step 3: Vitamin B- Biotin

Whole grains contain plenty of Biotin, which can aid hair growth in children. Therefore, eating a diet rich in biotin is considered essential for children. Biotin promotes the increased production of a protein called Keratin, which act as the building blocks of the hair follicles.

Step 4: Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Eating foods rich in Omega 3 Fatty acids would provide the body with essential fatty acids needed for hair growth. Including Omega 6 and Omega 9 fatty acids is beneficial for hair growth. Omega 6 fatty acid is found in organic beef while Omega 9 fatty acid is present in olive oils.

Step 5: Zinc and Iron

Iron and Zinc deficiencies can cause hair fall in certain cases. As such, including foods rich in these nutrients in a child’s daily diet can help promote hair growth. Some of the best sources of zinc would include chicken, beef, blackstrap molasses, sunflower seeds, wheat germ, whole oatmeal and bran. Some of the best sources of iron would include leafy green vegetables, meat, blackstrap molasses, enriched cereals and pumpkin.

Step 6: Scalp disorders

Certain scalp disorders can cause hair fall in children. As such, these disorders would need to be treated immediately in order to prevent further damage to the hair follicles, and more hair loss. Some of the more common scalp disorders that can affect hair growth in children include alopecia or tinea capitis.
