How to deal with difficult team members

Dealing with difficult team members can be very tricky. If not handled properly, it can lead to inefficiency and can affect the performance of the whole team. Given below are some ways to deal with difficult team members.

Keep the conversations impersonal

Keep away from talking about troublesome and private matters, like religious conviction and political affairs, or other topics that may be inclined to cause conflicting circumstances. Don’t let yourself be obsessed with a subject. If the other person tries to pull you in a conversation that will perhaps turn into a dispute, divert from the subject or depart from there.

Stay calm

Losing your control and bashing out isn’t the finest manner to get a difficult person to act as a team with you. It is always better to take on a tranquil personality. Despite of how frenzied or vigorous the difficult person turns out to be, do not get carried away and engage yourself in an emotional argument.

If you become angry, they will be the victor and you lose the capability to think and act sensibly. Nothing aggravates a problematic person more than that of not getting an angry response from you. By taking that road, you can sustain your self-esteem and the high opinion of others members of the team.

Focus on the positive aspects

A team comprises of skillful and proficient persons who are brought together to solve a particular problem or to complete a task. Each one of them will have both, negative and positive personality traits. So it’s better to make an effort to look for the positive characteristics of the difficult people. It will make them a little bit more bearable. They will be a lot more agreeable on adjusting as per your needs. And then you will probably have the benefit of spending your time with them.
