The more considerate and kind you are, the more your co worker is bound to stop being nasty. Try to ignore all the nasty things he does and try to be as nice as you can. This way, as time goes by, you will find that your co worker is being a lot nicer to you.

Finally, if none of the two aforementioned steps work, then you need to let your boss know what is going on. This way you have the upper hand. Your co worker is going to be warned by your boss and this is going to make sure that he manages to mend his nasty ways.
