Awaken your awareness- Live A Great Life Podcast by Dr Prem – Chapter. 17

Here is a quote – Rather than being your thoughts and emotions,. be the awareness behind them.

—Eckhart Tolle

Awareness implies staying awake and being attentive to our surroundings, people, phenomena, incidents, and our existence. It’s a mental state of consciousness that automatically sends us signals or clues about what’s happening around us. It tells us whether we are responding to such events the way we should. An aware individual stays awake from within to catch such signals and utilizes them to delineate their perception of the world. Such a sense of awareness buoys up the individual and helps them rediscover their unique identity, and keeping them motivated. When awareness and alertness become integral parts of our character, our ignorance and fears gradually start dying out.

Think beyond thoughts and emotions

For the successful completion of an endeavor or project, it’s imperative for a person to be confident about the deliverables and the feasibility of the task ahead. We cannot afford to toy with the idea of completing a task with the sort of mind that finds it difficult to concentrate, or displays an absence of purpose when doing it. Most of us try to use our emotions and thoughts to lead a fulfilling life, which, for want of awareness, fails to be as fulfilling as we want it to be.

Being aware is more important than being all thoughts and emotions

Besides keeping our eyes and ears open to what others think about our actions, we should keep reminding ourselves about staying awake at all times so that we can draw inferences from others’ expectations and,  of course, our own actions. While others’ overview of our capabilities and their expectations provide us an impetus to prove them right or wrong, our awareness of our surroundings and of our true self gives us the direction to take even the smallest steps with wakefulness and attentiveness.

Be aware instead of being an absent-minded genius

Awareness and alertness help us spot dangers, find quick solutions to problems and, of course, answer difficult questions with confidence. There is no denying that several absent-minded geniuses were just amazing with their research, theories, inventions, ideas, and discoveries. However, since they always remained occupied with their thoughts, they often forgot things and hence, didn’t seem like geniuses to the people they met. Accordingly, they didn’t command the kind of respect that they deserved.

Awareness generates compassion and level-headedness

We must understand that every individual that we meet on the street, at office or even at our home is fighting a battle of their own we may or may not know anything about. Hence, good sense calls for creating a sort of awareness towards our own self and others that eventually allows us to empathize with and understand other people’s point of view, keeping us at our compassionate best. Instead of looking back in anger or fear to analyze where we went wrong or how a bit of courage could have altered the course of events, we should look around for awareness to ensure that our past actions don’t become a habit.

Always believe that we, as humans, are awareness, instead of being just feelings, thoughts or being subject to circumstances. We crave being more alert than we are otherwise. When we develop such awareness, we become more alert in everything we do and are willing to do positive things that we never cared about doing in the past. Awareness and alertness help us in various aspects of our lives.
