Mark had been struggling to get a job for the last two years. He had his parents and a younger sister in is family. His chances to get this job were bright since he had been trying hard to sharpen his skills. He had given many interviews but no one needed a graduate with no experience. However, this job of a receptionist that meant the world to him. He left his house at eight o’clock since it took almost took two hours to reach his destination. The job of a receptionist was not his dream job for sure but it could help him support his parents who had sacrificed a lot for him. He got dressed in formal shirt and pants, grabbed his documents and left his house. He boarded a bus and sat near an old person who was in his sixties. He could not stop thinking how this job could change is life. He had plans to buy gifts for everyone with his first salary. He knew that he would have to keep the needs and requirement of his family members on top of his priority list.

Mark had a vague memory of his first day at college. His recalled that his father did not have single penny in his pocket even then he asked him if he needed something. Mark had said no since he did not want to humiliate his father. His parents who used to work hard to fulfill the necessities of the family had big dreams for their kids.

A few minute later, Mark had a good look at his watch. The old person who was sitting next to him was about to get down. A small girl who had a school bag on her shoulders came and sat next to him. She reminded him of his sister whose name was Martha. She was in last year of her college. The moment Mark looked at the girl sitting next to her he lost in thoughts again.

Martha always helped her mother in household work. She wanted to become a physician but knew that her parents would not be able to pay her school fee. Her best friend Lisa was living her dream. Martha and Lisa were best friends since long. A few days back, Lisa’s aunt had taken her to the city so that she could study to be a physician. It was hard to persuade Martha who had cried her eyes out. She was missing her best friend and was feeling bad for herself. “I wish I had a lot of money to finance your education,” Mark had said while wiping her tears off that day.

All of a sudden, the bus driver pulled over, as passengers were to get down. The little school girl sitting next to Mark took her bag and got down. Mark opened his eyes again when someone yelled, “Save the poor girl.” His heart skipped a beat when he saw outside the window. The small girl who had just got down had was hit by a car. Mark got down the bus and saw that the girl was lying unconscious in the middle of the road. No one came for help. Mark was already late for his interview. He waited for someone else to step forward and help.

When no one came closer, Mark at once went forward and picked the girl. She was bleeding and had already lost a lot of blood. Mark ran towards the nearby hospital. He was so much scared that he took no time to reach there. With in no time he took out the diary from her school bag and informed her parents who were on the way.

“She is all right now. Thank god, you brought her at the right time. Where are her parents?” the doctor asked him as she came out of the casualty room.

Mark took a sigh of relief. He had saved someone’s life. He knew that he had lost an opportunity to get a good job that he needed baldly but he had no regrets.

“You did the right thing,” his father said when he went back home. His mother had no complaints and his sister Martha also gave him tight hug.
