A group of first year students of MBBS class gathered to start a new day as they were supposed to have their first class. The professor was there in the class right on time. He was a middle-aged fellow who had heavy beard. He asked them to introduce themselves and told them about the class timing on alternative days. All the students were paying attention or at least pretending to be there in the class physically and mentally. The professor was wearing a formal shirt and trousers that made him look an easygoing guy and the students did not want to miss any opportunity to take an advantage. Some were busy talking to each other.
As soon as the professor gave his formal introduction, he asked the attendant to bring the dead body of a real dog.
“Oh my goodness, I didn’t know we would get down to the business right away,” a female student said as she had a good look at the dead dog.
“Oh, l am going to faint in a few minutes,” a boy made fun of her.
The professor was busy taking out his equipments from his handbag.
He gathered everyone around the dead body and said, “I hope you are comfortable having a dead dog right here in front of you.”
All the students nodded in an agreement.
“Do no not feel disgusted even when things are not so good. It is important that you do not lose you cool since the life and sanity of your patients depends upon you, at least at that point of time,” he said in a mild tone.
“I hope you have got my point. Take it easy as soon it is going to be a part of your daily routine,” the professor said.
The next moment, students witnessed something very strange. The professor inserted his finger right into dog’s mouth and tasted it.
“Go on,” the professor indicated all the students to do the same.
A few of them hesitated for while but as soon as the one student took an initiative all of them inserted their fingers in dog’s mouth and tasted it.
The professor was observing everyone and as soon as they all did that the professor said, “I want you to pay a close attention in my class. Did you even notice that I inserted my middle finger into dog’s mouth and tasted my index finger? Learn to observe closely.”
The students end up staring at each other’s face as they have just taken the first lesson of the day and that too in a quite strange manner.
It happens with almost every one of us. Our life is actually simple but we make it complicated by taking those things for granted that value the most.
