What is Patience and How it Can Help You With Success in Life

be patient

What is Patience?

Things take time and we should be patient enough to wait for the right time when we can start getting the desired result of our efforts. It is a world-known fact that we all are not born under some lucky star but it is also a fact that we all have the ultimate virtue called “patience.” Patience makes it all worth the wait, and success all the sweeter. But, what exactly is it? Let’s take a look at some of its important aspects.

1. The more time it takes, the sweeter it gets

We all want everything now and today but this mentality does not work for all. There are people whose dreams are not time-bound but most people have to wait long and hard to get even the simplest luxury of life and it is also a fact that this gives them the happiness that we keep looking all our life. When the result is sweet then all the wait is worth it.

2. It’s not simply waiting

If you simply keep waiting for a miracle to happen, then you would certainly get a lot of disappointment at a moment when things must have gone beyond your control. Being patient means you keep doing your bit with equal zeal and let the results follow. If waiting worked like a magic wand, everyone would have achieved their dreams by doing nothing.

3. Patience does not mean putting off

It can always keep you in the good books of your friends if you tell them that you are waiting for the right time to come but you know it deep down inside you that it is not so. Procrastination or putting things off can be an indication of the fear in you, the fear of moving on, or leaving the comfort zone. Let go of this fear before it gets too late. It takes a moment to win over your fear.

4. Do not rush over things

It is so true that many of our friends who start with us move ahead in life and fulfill their dreams but it does not mean that we try to get shortcuts to match them. We all have to meet our destiny but we all are different. Have patience since efforts made in the right direction never go waste. Have your own plans. There is a big difference between getting inspired and imitating others. Blind imitation can harm your plans.

5. Patience is not laziness

Do not confuse patience with laziness or passivity. If you do not keep yourselves prepared for the right time then you would only regret it. When you are in control, you get truly confident and you really become worthy of results.

6. Patience makes you worthy

There are people who get everything easily. Call it their luck or destiny. However, do they really get what they are looking for? Patience is a virtue that makes you worthy of results. You do not have to take shelter of luck to get what you work hard for all your life. You know that you deserve it. This sole feeling gives you everlasting happiness.

Everything has a right time and place, but you just need to keep yourselves prepared for that moment to come. Patience is not simply waiting; it means waiting while keeping yourself all geared up.

How to Be Patient During Times of Hardships?

Nobody is immune to rough times. If you feel disheartened and hopeless during the times of hardship, it is important for you to develop patience. This can only be done by keeping faith in your own abilities to cope with every situation. When you believe in yourself, you can find many alternative routes that may take you toward success again. Being optimistic is required while facing rough situations. However, it does not mean that you should only remain happy and contended. It means that you should be positive about taking an action to improve your current situation. Read on to know how you may hold patience and deal with difficult times.

1. Avoid making quick judgments

While hardships are inevitable, it is not right to go into sadness and despair. There is also no point in being angry with people and situations. Making quick judgments or arriving at fast conclusions may not solve your problems. Had it been able to change anything, you would not find yourself in difficult situations at all. Thus, do not conclude the reasons and results of any negative situation occurring in your life. Stay positive so you may find the route to come out of the dark.

2. Look for alternatives

When you learn to be optimistic, you can open multiple doors to move ahead in life. You become patient enough to try another door if one does not open or you try to create a door on your own. You never know when success welcomes you on a chosen alternative path. However, it is critical to keep struggling and finding alternatives until you reach your goals in life. Hardships are just obstacles that block your doors on your way to those goals. Thus, overcome such obstacles and make your own path.

3. Avoid over-crying to find new prospects

Sometimes, you cry over a hard situation to such an extent that you even forget to look for fresh prospects in your life. Remember that there are always options that can empower you and drive your passion once again. Thus, avoid grieving over a past situation and wait for the right time to take the right actions for improving your life. Without efforts, you cannot move on and find new prospects. Start working on the options you receive during hard times and believe in your ability to convert those options into favorable opportunities.

4. Do not be nervous

If you remain nervy, then you are not practicing patience. Thus, you should start accepting your circumstances in order to remove your nervousness or agitation. Since not everything can go according to your plans, it is better to accept even the adverse situations and learn from them. When you do so, you will be able to relax your mind and think from a fresh perspective. You will be able to make fresh plans for your life and work on your circumstances with patience.

5. Take time to assess your immediate needs

During hardships, hope comes when you start moving toward solutions. However, do it all patiently and give yourself time to figure out your needs before grabbing just any opportunity coming your way. Tough times do not mean that every solution can bring you favorable results or can lead you in the right direction. Thus, it is necessary to assess what you actually want from life and then start finding ways through which you may fulfill that need. Moving in the right direction with patience is the key to achieve the desired results.

How to Deal with Impatience?

Impatience is considered as one of the major personality flaws. People, who are impatient, are usually considered insensitive, overbearing, and arrogant. It is a psychological malfunctioning, but there are certain ways a person can stop himself/herself from getting impatient.

1. Find the reason

The first thing, which can make your impatience fade away is having a knowledge of its cause. Most of the people tend to lose patience when they are multi-tasking or on a tight schedule and expecting the day to pass more quickly than usual. The best way to avoid impatience in this state is by making a ‘to-do list’ well before you start your day. Make sure you stick to one task at a particular time. It will not only soothe your nerves but also make the work you are doing better and enjoyable. If possible, share your workload with others.

2. Remember that things take time

Accept the fact that there are certain things that can’t be rushed. Never insist on getting things done in a hurry. Remember the point ‘Haste only makes waste’€. If you are being impatient, take a deep breath and allow yourself to cool down. Good things usually come to those who wait. Try to remind yourself about the happiest moments of your life that are examples of your patience. Impatience can lead to disaster, both in private as well as professional life. Distract yourself with things you enjoy, it also helps at times.

3. Focus on things that matter and be positive

Focusing on things that don’t matter and not focusing on the ones that matter in life also fuels impatience. Be grateful and generous, instead of moving towards unimportant matters move towards the important one. Always try to have a positive outlook in life as it can revitalize your patience. Life is not a race, but a journey to be enjoyed on the way.

4. Expect the unexpected

Always be prepared, as you never know what you are going to get next in life. Maybe you have plans, but they don’t always work out. Be realistic with your expectations. Life has many twists and turns, some good some bad, accept all of them gratefully. This criterion applies for circumstances as well as the behavior of people around you. If you find yourself getting annoyed due to someone’s mistake, try to remember that no one is perfect. Losing your patience isn’t going to make anything better. Instead in a situation where you feel you are losing your patience, it is highly recommended to sit down and have a glass of water. Discussing problems that may lead to impatience is also helpful.

5. Give yourself a break and meditate

Slow your world down for some time. It can help you to maintain the attitude that is necessary for patience. Take some time and do nothing. Sit alone and try to cool off your tensed nerves. You may also go for some meditation. It will help you in reducing the level of stress, which is the main agent of impatience.

The Art of Being Patient with Your Dreams

Do you have a dream which you would like to pursue? What are the events occurring in your life at the moment? Are you leading a stressful life, where your dreams have piled up below the burden of stress and anxiety? What you need to do is pursue your dreams and go where they would lie to take you to. As said by Henry David Thoreau, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you have imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simple”. We all have dreams which we would like to achieve in life. But people who really work hard can turn their dreams into reality.

You should confidently go for your dreams forgetting the consequences of good and bad. Live the life that you have always imagined. Do not allow yourself to be buried under societal pressure and others.

1. Do not give up on your dreams

Childhood brings along with it numerous ambitions and objectives in life. This is the best time when youngsters start dreaming about their life, their future, and their goals. Parents are there the main source of motivation and inspiration. When you talk to a small child ear him saying that “ill become an Astronaut, I will become He-man, I will become a doctor. If you actually dream and want to convert the dream into reality, strive hard for it, realize your aims and aspirations, and also try and achieve the objective in life. There are some people, who dream very big, but in the middle of somewhere, their dreams shatter to pieces and they are washed away by a flood of situation and challenge.

Some dreams are washed away because of financial constraints, the monetary pressure, and loss of some loved one or academic incompetence. However, if you have dreamt of something devotedly, work towards fulfilling the same.

2. Accept a challenge

Challenges will always be a part of life. You need to face the challenges and try and succeed. Life is never a bed of roses. There are thorns in the middle of your path and you need to tackle those thorns and succeed in life the same way. The main thing is to look after your ambition and overcome all challenges in life. Most people always use failure as an excuse when they cannot achieve their dreams. But that is not right. There are many men who failed in life before succeeding. Some great examples are Bill Gates, Thomas Alva Edison, Einstein, and many more.

Follow your dreams, work hard, and achieve the result. “The dreams that you hold for the future are those that you dream at night”. Be positive. Surround yourself with positive vibes and positive energy around you. If you imagine something you will be amazed to know that you can achieve them in the best possible way. So don’t ever stop loving, believing, and following your dreams.

3. Be positive

If you ever feel defeated in life, always follow your dreams. You will never lose for long periods of time. Set your imagination free like a bird and act in time. Have faith and a vision in life. Also believe in yourself, believe in God, and be a good human being.

4. Nurture your dreams and never let them escape

You will never achieve anything if you do not work hard for it. Have the strength to follow and act on your dreams. Your dreams and visions take a long time to actually be apparent. So give yourself, ample amount of time, realize your dreams, and work hard to struggle and get towards it. Your big dream may not be apparent overnight, but if you work hard, you will gradually get it. Be positive, work hard and you will definitely be rewarded.

Be true to your goals, and remain focused on the initiation of your dream. If you have wished to be a doctor, study well, and aim for that position in life. As said by Eleanor Roosevelt said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams;”.

Summary

Patience is a great survival strategy in difficult times. However, it is essential to keep your mind calm and composed so you do not make quick judgments and can find alternatives to make your life positive once again.
