There were only two candidates for the post when Nilesh reached there in the lobby. He had already given a couple of interviews so he was not scared at all. He knew that the people sitting on the other side of the table always try to give you a hard time so that they can bring the best in you. He has mugged up all the answers that he did not know when he gave his last interview. He sat next to a boy who was shabbily dressed. He was not a competition for Nilesh since he knew he would give his best.
Nilesh’s mother was his motivation. She always said, “If you wish to get success in life you must study while other are sleeping.”
A few minutes later Nilesh thought he should talk to the boy sitting next to him as he looked upset.
“Hi, what’s your name?” Nilesh asked the boy who was sitting next to him.
“My name is Neeraj,” he said.
“Do you need a glass of water? You look tired. I mean are you all right?” Nilesh asked.
“No, I am fine. It’s just that I am feeling sleepy,” Neeraj answered.
“Oh, so you study at night time. I help my father at his shop. I don’t get time to study so I also study at night,” Nilesh said.
Neeraj took a sigh and said, “No, I was in hospital with my elder brother. He had met with an accident,” Neeraj said.
“How is he now? So you will have to go back to the hospital after the interview,” Nilesh asked.
“No, he passed away in the morning. I am coming right after his last rituals,” Neeraj answered.
“Oh, I am sorry. You should be with your parents then,” Nilesh said.
Neeraj had tears in his eyes when he said, “My parents are old and my brother was the only earning hand in the family. I need a job at any cost. My father is shattered and it is very difficult to make two ends meet. We do not have money to pay hospital bills.”
Nilesh had no words. Even his father was not a rich man but he had enough to fulfill the necessities of the family.
Nilesh did not know what to do. There were still only two candidates for the post and his chances were bright. He knew that the company people would hire one of them at any cost since the advertisement in the newspaper said, “Need to hire on urgent basis.” He Took out his mobile phone and said, “Oh, I almost forgot. I need to make an urgent call.”
Nilesh did not turn back even after half an hour and Neeraj got the job.
Nilesh went back home and told his mother about it. She was happy that her son was not only a good student but a good human being as well.
