Life Lessons From A Plane Crash Survivor

When I was 6, we were heading home on a plane leaving Moscow International airport. We were warned that there would be turbulence, but nothing could have prepared us for what was about to happen. After a sudden jolt, the plane began to plummet. It was losing altitude fast and everyone was panicking. People were praying, crying, screaming, and I was in shock. After what seemed like 5 minutes of constant free fall, there was calm again and the pilot was able to stabilize the plane. Everyone was fine.

Ric Elias had a front-row seat on Flight 1549, the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in New York in January 2009. He saw the river approaching the river and as he thought about his life ending, he thought about the things that were important to him. He thought about 3 things and they were the life lessons he took away from his experience. The miraculous crash landing gave Ric another chance to implement his life lessons, and we’re going to share them with you here:

3 Life Lessons Learned From Surviving A Plane Crash

1. It All Changes In An Instant

We all have a bucket list of things we want to do in life. We all have people that we want to talk to that we haven’t in a long time and we postpone it. What Ric learnt from his experience is that everything can change in an instant and life can be over. We postpone the things that will make us happy because we are waiting for the situation to be different, to be better in the future but we don’t have to do that. There is no reason to delay doing what you love because the time to do those things is now.

This urgency and purpose will change your life.

2. Choose To Be Happy, Not Right

Our ego and pride have a habit of getting in the way of our own happiness. There are times that we choose to be right and prove ourselves, at the detriment of those we love. You may be working to get better and focusing on self improvement everyday, but this revelation can be a key to so much happiness in your life.

By choosing to be happy, you let go of the need to be right all the time and you focus on building and improving your relationships.

By removing this need in your life, you can choose to eliminate negative energy from it.

3. You Are Very Lucky To Be Here

As his plane was about to crash into the Hudson river, Ric thought about the last one of his three life lessons. He wanted, above all else, to see his children grow up. He thought about how lucky he was to be able to do that, and that his goal in life was to be a great father. He had let the distractions in life to allow him to forget about all the things he already had in his life, and after surviving the crash, he was able to return and invest so much more into his family.

What are you life lessons? Now is the time to ask yourself:

– What do you need to get done that you are postponing because you think you’re going to be here forever?
– How would you change your relationships and the negative energy in them?
– Are you being the best person you can be?
