The window of success

Jenny got admitted in city hospital as she had broken her leg while she was playing badminton at her school. She was an average student as it was difficult for her to concentrate at her studies. Her teachers had nothing but complaints about her when her dad went to meet the principal last week. They said that she was always down and low. Her confidence level had gone really down ever since one of her teachers had told her that she would always be an average student. Jenny’s dad had scolded the teacher for using such harsh words but the harm was already done. That teacher resigned for her job and left the school later on.

“ Where is mom,” Jenny asked her grandpa who used to be here in the hospital to take care of here since her parents had to go to work.

Her grandfather told her in a mild and loving voice, “She will come in the evening. You just relax.”

Doctors had asked Jenny to lie flat in her bed so that she could not move her leg. Jenny she used to get bored, as there was no one else in her ward. Her grandfather would look outside the window and tell her what he saw.

One day when her father peeped outside he said, “Oh my god, this boy will never learn how to ride a bicycle. He is so bad at it.”

Jenny who was lying flat on her back asked with a lot of interest, “What happened grandpa, who are you talking about?”

“Nothing, it is the same boy who was trying to ride a bicycle yesterday. He has not learnt anything from his mistakes, “he replied.

Jenny was surprised at her grandpa’s answer and said in a mysterious tone, “What do you mean by learning from mistakes, grandpa.”

“I meant, every time he falls down he must pull himself together and try again with extra vigor,” grandpa told Jenny.

Grandpa was still looking outside the window and smiling.

“What happened grandpa? What makes you smile,” Jenny asked.

“He fell off his bicycle again but it seems like he will not give up. He has asked his friends to push the bicycle and to help him maintain the balance.

A few minute later, grandpa said, “Now, his friend is teaching him how to maintain balance without help. His friend rides quite well. This boy will learn now since he has someone to guide him.”

“Is it important to take help from others grandpa? Jenny asked.

“Well, I would say that when you do not know what to do, you must take help of your loved ones. They can help you and give direction to your life,” grandpa replied.

The next when grandpa looked outside the window, he looked surprised.

“Great, this boy has been practicing all day long. He knew nothing about bike riding and now he seems quite familiar with the basics,” grandpa informed her.

“Is he crazy or what? He must try some other day,” Jenny said.

“You have to get a hang of success, kiddo. If you want something, you must prove yourself worthy of it. Someone who takes it easy can never call him/her self a winner,” grandpa replied.

A few days later when Jenny got discharged from the hospital she looked outside the window and found that she could only see the wall of adjoined building. She was surprised.

Grandfather holding his granddaughter and communicatingShe went to her grandpa who was standing right behind her and was ready to answer her question.

“I was trying to tell you that you must not hesitate to take help if you do not understand anything. Do not give up. Try your level best and witness yourself getting success. Even if you are the worst student in your school, you must try hard to improve. Work hard and show everyone that you are around,” grandpa said as he gave her a tight hug.

It is true that those who give up never win and those who never give up are bound to succeed. Hard work always pays off. Those who do not work hard can never hope to get success.
