Once upon a time, there lived a man who was kind to all. He was a rich fellow who had a lot of money and all worldly possessions. Everyone in the whole town knew about his kindness as people used to come to him to ask for help. He used to give respect to poor people and was kind to women. He had no one in his family as he had lost everything to a flood when he was merely twenty. His mother loved him dearly and his father taught him honesty when they were alive. He got married once but his wife passed away when she gave birth to a son who died a few weeks later. He was nice to all and tried hard to help everyone. He once said that everyone had died in his family but god kept him alive to help all others around him.
One day a young woman came to him and started crying. She was wearing torn clothes that could hardly cover her body.
The moment rich man saw her crying he said, “What happened? Who are you and why are you crying?”
She wiped off her tears and said, “I am very poor. I have a son who has a terrible disease and doctors say that I must deposit a big amount of money so that they can consult a surgeon from abroad for his treatment.”
“How much do you need,” the rich man asked.
“Around $500, but Sir I promise will return the money in installments,” the woman said with tears in her eyes.
The rich man was moved by her story and gave her the money.
Months went by, one day the woman came again to see the rich man. She was in a bad condition. The moment she looked at him she started touching his feet and said, “Please save my son. Doctors say that I must give them $500 more to save my son. Please help me. I would be really grateful to you.”
The rich man gave her the amount without giving it a second thought.
A few days later, someone told the rich man that the woman who took money from him told him a lie to get the money. She had no son, in fact she was not even married.
The rich man did not look surprised and said in a mild tone, “She had no son. Well, that’s great news since I could not sleep ever since she had told me about her dying son.”
Even after this incidence, the women came to the rich man again. He told her that he knew that she had no son and gave her some money to start a small business to earn her living.
Money is important but humanity is above everything else.
