Many of us may have to deal with a crazy, stupid boss at work who keeps on showing his bossy attitude by letting out all his anger and frustration on his employees. Yet for the benefit of both the organization and your own precious job, you need to know how to deal with such a boss. Here are some great tips to help you.
Keep your own anger in check
If your boss has an anger comparable to the wrath of the archangels, and never leaves a single opportunity to point out your mistakes in the most aggressive and hostile manner, then in such cases trying to answer back with equal aggression isnât going to help at all. Keep your calm and donât try to fight with him, it will only worsen the situation. Once they have regained composure, try to be apologetic about your mistake and also try to explain to him how his anger takes a toll on you in a non offensive manner. This may help him to control his anger in future and not to behave in a hostile manner. This is because most of the times, the anger is not intended and your boss may not even realize that he is harsh or rude to you.
Do not try to question his knowledge
If your boss has an air of self-assertion and does not listen to you under any circumstances, then trying to oppose him and exhibit your own expertise is definitely not a good idea. Such people as your boss, have a sense of authority that leads them to believe that they are superior to any other person and therefore dismiss all other good ideas in the process. If you want to put forward your ideas, make sure you do your homework well and have all the required information at hand. Try to talk to them in a way that does not challenge their authority and which makes them believe that what you are trying to say is not insignificant, but actually makes sense. This is how you get your boss to hear you out!
Try to get to know him just a little better
Even though your boss might be a first grade idiot and absolutely incapable of some humane behavior, he is a human being and has certain likes and dislikes. Try to be a little more on your feet and pay attention to some details like: what irritates your boss or whether your boss is a total freak for something. This would make you take notice of things prudently and whenever required, you can shoot him in the face with ideas pertaining to those things he dies for or maybe a few quotes of the person he idolizes. This way, you will become to your boss, someone who shares a similar taste and/or distaste, and he may even give up his authoritarianism. This would help you get a green signal on your ideas more easily.
Do not speak ill of him
Your boss will always remain the boss. This is because your boss would probably have people spread all across the workplace who would do anything to please him. They would do anything to have a better ‘impression’ of themselves in the workplace. So the moment you utter something nasty or negative about your boss, it is going right back to him, verbatim. This will obviously, lead to a decline in your reputation and your boss will hold you down from that point onward, even thoughhe had no such plans earlier. Keep your negative remarks to yourself and if the urgency increases, speak directly to your boss. But in any situation, do not let the lid of your mouth loose, as instead of improving the situation, it will definitely damage your reputation in the eyes of the tiger!
Try to avoid bullying by not being submissive
At work, there may be chances that your boss is constantly trying to make fun of you, or belittle you. In such cases, being a quiet, hapless person is not the very good idea. Try to stand up to him, in a bold, defensive manner. You could even ask him politely on what basis he had made fun of you. Mostly, your boss may try to dismiss the attack as a simple joke and will try to convince you to be a sport about it, but he will get the idea that you will not entertain his acts of mockery any longer. This way, your boss would eventually give this habit up of joking on your name.
