Everybody has some or the other fear in life. These fears are called phobias and they are natural as every human being has some or the other fear in life which they should try to overcome. A fear can at times stop us from doing something we want. Phobia is when everyone else is not scared and only some people have an irrational fear. An example of such a fear is the fear of plane crashes.

The fear of flying is also called aerophobia, aviatophobia or aviophobia. Many people have this fear. They get a lot of anxiety and stress if they have to fly somewhere in the near future. Even when they are flying they are under tremendous trauma and stress till they reach their destination. They keep fearing that the plane will crash and they will die because of it. And as planes fly in the air, most often the people fearing air plane crashes feel that there is no escape route in this mode of transport. This increases the fear of airplane crashes. Moreover there is a fear of flying over water, clausterphobia, the fear of not being in control of the situation and fear of hijacking and terrorism that adds to the fear of plane crashes. Airplanes are statistically proven to be one of the safe forms of transport in the world. Statistically speaking, the likelihood of an airplane crash is far lesser than accidents on the ground. But still there are many people all over the world who have the fear of plane crashes.

How to Overcome the fear of Plane Crashes

  • There are some medications that can be taken by the people suffering from the fear to relax themselves during a flight. However this is not advised as it is far better to overcome the fear of plane crashes rather than take medication for it.
  • Looking at favorable statistics of air transport and understanding how planes work also helps to reduce the fear. Educating oneself and trying to remove the fear is advised. Sometimes taking the help of a therapy is also a good way to reduce extreme fear of plane crashes.

Some people who suffer from this fear of plane crashes must try to overcome this fear naturally or with the help of medication or a therapist to make their plane journey peaceful.
