Good old memories of loved ones

Man at the sunrise

Andrew was barely able to walk when he came home that night. It was his father’s birthday but he chose to drink with his friends instead of being with his father. His mother had passed away a few months back. He loved his mother dearly. He had never thought he would take another breath without her but he was alive. Life went on and everything was the same even when his mother was gone. The day his mother had died, he had not come home something that changed his life forever. He wanted to talk to his mother for one last time. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her and spend quality time with her. He had not only lost his mother but he had lost a friend who knew all his secrets and who had always been there by his side.

hard times

How can he forget the day when he had come early morning after celebrating his birthday with his friends? He was drunk when he reached home. He hardly realized that he had lost an important person of his life. Life took a different direction that day and Andrew had lost everything.

The early morning when he got up, he realized that his father was still home. His father had rarely taken a day off ever since his mother’s death. It was his way to keep himself busy. He knew that his father would come upstairs and say something that would spoil his day. He waited for another half an hour since he did not have the nerve to face his father who was always lost in his own world. He did not even remember the day when he had seen his father laughing after the death of his mother.

reading newspaper

At around twelve o’clock, he went downstairs and saw his father reading a newspaper. He had a good look at him and realized that he looked old. The skin of his hands had loosened and the gray hair in his beard we shining bright. “Belated happy birthday dad,” he said.

“Thank you, son, I waited till eleven o’clock at night. Don’t you know that we always have our dinner together on special days,” his father looked calm when he told him that.

Andrew was all ready for an argument but he did not know that his father would take it easy. He sat next to him and said, “I am sorry, dad. I really wanted to be there but got stuck somewhere.”

“If your mother were alive she would told you not to come home late at night. She would have said that you should not drive when you are not even able to stand straight,” his father explained.

Andrew did not know how to react back as he was expecting his father to yell at him. He knew his father was peeping from the window when he had arrived last night.

“I am sorry, dad,” Andrew had no reason to lie.

“Don’t be sorry son. I forgive you for everything you have ever done. I wish your mother were here. She wanted both of us to sit together and discuss things as a family. ”

Andrew did not know that his father would ever let him sneak a peek inside his heart. He kept quiet for a moment and said, “Should I fetch you a cup of coffee, dad.”

Father and Son Laughing and Using Cell Phone

“Sure, a cup of coffee is all I need,” his father said.

“I will make sure we eat together on special days, dad,” Andrew said as he left for the kitchen.

“Oh, that reminds me of something. I thought we should eat together so I skipped my dinner last night. Now, I am starving,” his father informed him.

Andrew saw tears in his father’s eyes when he looked at his face. It made him think of his mother.

Tearful Elderly Man

When they were having their dinner, his father took a bite from his plate. He looked at him and said, “Can’t you be the same old Andrew who had a spark in his eyes, who had big dreams and who could have done anything to bring a smile on his mother’s face.”

That day Andrew took the control of his life in his own hands. He decided to go to college to be a graduate and quit drinking.
