Friends forever

Friends-forever

Two friends Suresh and Harish lived in the same neighborhood and studied in the same school. They would always make plans to be together and to support each other all their lives. They were so close that they hardly spent a moment without each other. Both were good at studies. Suresh’s father wanted him to go abroad for further studies so that he could learn business skills and take over the family business a few years later. Harish knew that his family could not afford to send him for further studies. Suresh had also planned a good future for himself but at the same time, he did not want to go away from his best friend.

One day when both of them met at a coffee shop, Harish asked Jim, “When are you planning to leave?

“Next week, are you coming with me?  My father has a lot of money, we could talk to him. He can lend you some money. I am sure he would love to help,” Suresh said as he took a sip of coffee.

“There is no need to do that. He will never give me such a huge amount. Anyways, I do not want to continue my studies. I am planning to get a job so that I can support my parents,” Harish said. He knew deep down inside that Jim’s father would never lend him such a big amount. He did not want to get embarrassed.

“Think it over again Harish. I want you to come with me,” Suresh said.

“But I don’t want to study anymore. How many times do I need to tell you that,” Harish said as he shrugged his shoulder and left.

Suresh knew that his friend wanted to go abroad. He was a good student and after having an MBA degree, he could start his own business easily.

Man having a fever

A week later, Suresh went to meet Harish who was not well. He had not eaten anything for the last two days and had fever. Suresh took no time to understand that his friend was going through a lot of pain. He went inside his room and said, “How are you now?”

“I am all right. I have just taken a medicine. Doctor says I must take some rest,” Harish answered.

“I am leaving next week.  I hope you would come to see me off at the air port, would you?” Suresh asked. He had a strange smile on his face.

Harish knew what was coming. It was difficult for him to live without him. If he had a lot of money, he would have packed his bags to accompany him but things were different. He pulled himself together and said, “Sure I will come along. I mean I will come along to see you off at the rail station.”

“Don’t forget to bring your luggage,” Suresh said as he was about to leave the room.

“What do you mean?” Harish asked, as he had no plans to go anywhere. He had already given an interview and he was sure he would get that job.

“Well, that means you are coming with me,” Suresh said.

“The day I had asked you to talk to my dad to borrow some money, I discussed the matter with him. I told him that as soon as you get a job you would give him the money. He denied but when I told him that if he didn’t bear the expense of your education I would not go anywhere, he had to agree,” Suresh explained.

“I can’t take that money. I can’t come with you,” he said.

 Friends-forever

“All right then, it’s better for both of us to stay here and start a small business. I am not going to leave without you,” Suresh informed him.

Harish knew that Suresh was stubborn so he gave up finally. They went abroad together and earned their MBA degree. Harish got a side job and arranged the amount.

Suresh and Harsh started their own business as they had planned. They were business partners now and happy to be together.
