How to deal with cops

deal-with-cops

Most of the people are afraid of cops and hesitate to talk to them. While, some pf the cops are difficult to handle, some act friendly but there are ways to deal with cops easily and without any trouble.

Maintain your calm

A difficult attitude results into a bad outcome. One should always remember that being polite, nice and compliant would assure a nice outcome always. One usually sees that the police officials, while investigating any matter, ask the people to cooperate and answer their questions correctly and they do this repeatedly. The more you cooperate with any cop; the better would be the situation for you. Being stubborn and difficult to talk to would mean a lot of upcoming problems for you. Therefore, it is very important to maintain your calm and act politely whenever there is any sort of investigation going on. You’d never be punished for anything that you haven’t done and therefore there’s nothing to worry about whenever answering the questions.

Don’t argue with cops

Maintaining silence at certain instances is very important. It is quite natural that if a cop stops you, you might definitely get confused and perplexed. One might not even feel comfortable while talking to them at that instance. The matter worsens more when a person is asked to get off his car and is then questioned by the cops over something or the other. In such scenarios one may feel irritated, frustrated and angry. However, it should always be ensured that remaining silent in such circumstances don’t give the policemen any chance to act against you. But, the case would be definitely opposite if one acts a bit foolish and starts arguing with the cops over his innocence. A cop might even frame things against such a person and land him in a difficult situation altogether.

Know your rights to refuse searches

A person has every right to refuse the searches from a cop. There are even stringent laws in the Oregon and US constitutions which have been put in place in order to ensure that the policemen have a valid reason to search one’s property or even the person himself. However, consent exception is one of the exceptions of such a rule. This means that a cop can’t randomly stop someone and begin his search. Rather, he can first ask the person about his consent for the search and if the person agrees the cop may proceed searching him. However, there are very few people who are actually aware of this fact and fall prey to various cops. They just end up paying them bribes for not harassing them anymore. Certain facts, like this one should be understood by every civilian while dealing with cops. Your refusal for not allowing a cop to search you would never be used against you and you certainly have a right to ask the cop for a warrant in such scenarios.

Play safe

Cops are known to trick people by speaking to them in a friendly manner over some investigation. One should remember that the police do not really have any obligation to tell you the actual thing about the investigation. Therefore, one should never decide that being nice, over-friendly and spilling the guts would help. Don’t be tricked or fooled by the cops rather act in a smarter manner while answering their questions. Do not exaggerate anything that seems to be rather tricky. Otherwise, you would yourself end up losing. Understanding the mindset of cops is very important in order to effectively deal with them. They actually have the habit of asking questions repeatedly in different ways, but one should remain cautious and answer them smartly.

Avoid exposing yourself

If one commits a criminal act in public, it becomes much easier for any cop to arrest him and take action immediately. There are obviously numerous such acts and arrests which follow the crimes that have been witnessed by the cops themselves. Remember, that the cops cannot detain or stop you with out any solid proof. It is really important that they provide a genuine reason to believe that you are the one committing a crime. This should always be based on strong circumstantial evidence which is to be proved in court. Therefore, laws should never be broken at the first place, however, if you have to do so due to some unavoidable reason, please do not make it public.
