Situations like meeting a friend to whom you haven’t been in touch for several years, coming across your ex girlfriend when you are with your wife, when a neighbor notices you with another woman, when someone criticizes your body fat or any other physical changes, meeting your boss at the bar, etc., are quite awkward to face. However, by learning few simple techniques, you can boldly overcome such situations at ease.

Handle the situation

Everybody will come across awkward moments in their life. Of course, they make you uncomfortable about being yourself. If you don’t face such situations boldly, they may bring you awkward moments in the future as well. Running away from them doesn’t gives you any solutions. Have guts to face uncertain moments in your life. In reality, there are many solutions to one problem. Finding a single solution is not going to be a big deal, if you try. On the contrary, if you don’t try, finding one solution itself will become an impossible thing to do. A gentle smile, a light pat on someone’s back, a warm hug, a little nod, a simple handshake, words like sorry and thank you, etc., can make a huge difference when you face awkward situations in your life.

Be smart

Smartness is not about how to cheat someone without alerting him/her. It’s about handling any kind of situation in an efficacious manner. The quality of smartness develops when one faces awkward moments boldly. When you take actions, solutions will appear in front of you through any form like thoughts, signs, symbols, people, etc. Spend very little time to awkward moments. It is one of the simplest technique to deal with them. When you start thinking how to handle those situations, literally, you will keep thinking until the situation changes itself. So, try to notice the moment and deal it as soon as you can. At many occasions, you just need a fraction of a second for a simple nod or a gentle smile to recognize the situation and face it instantly.

Look from the positive perspective

Most people blame themselves for making their decision to be at that place and at that time when they are forced into an awkward moment. Understand that the reason for you to face awkward situations is not your mistake by any means. It’s not others’ mistake as well. Stop blaming yourselves and think from the positive point of view. If the awkward moment is caused by a person, think about his/her good characters; if it is caused by your pets, think about how it brings happiness to you and your family; if it’s your vehicle, think about how it helps you daily to travel effortlessly. Literally, there are a number of reasons to appreciate someone or something. Only when you look them from the positive perspective, you can deal the awkward situations easily, without hurting yourself and others.

Practice

You may not be able to cope up with awkward situations initially. Like every other job, sufficient experience is needed to deal them successfully. Be patient, especially during the initial attempts. Because, you will have a number of opportunities to give up your efforts at these times. Share your awkward stories with your loved ones and get to know about similar situations faced by them. Knowing others’ experience will help you to be aware of more real-life incidents from people whom you have personally met. However, never expect the situations to prevail in the same manner as others might have faced it. Each and every moment is unique, different and uncertain in life. So, you cannot expect them to happen in the same way as you wish.

Making mistakes are a part of life. In fact, it’s natural for human beings. Never regret yourselves for the mistakes you have made in the past. Instead, focus your attention on the present life and correct your mistakes. Make sure that you won’t make the same mistakes again in your life. Forgive yourselves for the mistakes you have made and just move on. Forgiveness is a divine quality that human beings can possess. When you forgive yourselves, you can realize its benefits. Consider every mistake as a symbol that directs you to your destination through the right path. Without these symbols, you would be lost in the middle of nowhere. When you become familiar with dealing awkward situations, try to help others who face similar situations in their life. It yields you generous satisfaction and fulfillment in life.
