Stella had already spent six decades of her life when she got herself registered to get her graduation degree. Most of the youngsters in college would turn back to have yet another glance of her when she walked proudly having library books in her hands. There was almost no one who was not impressed with her sense of humor and the way she approached life. She would say that she had a lot to do when she was young whenever someone asked her a reason to attend college at her age.
Even Daniel who could not believe his eyes when he had first met her always looked up to her. Daniel was from a middle class family and no one had ever seen him smiling. His father had died at the time of his birth. He had his mother and younger sister at home. It was hard to make two ends meet with no regular source of income. Most people in the class knew that since he had a side job at a shopping mall that was just a few blocks away. The moment Stella came and sat next to her she was not aware that Daniel was kind of a tough guy.
“Hello,” Stella said as she dropped her heavy handbag on the table.
Daniel kept quite but as time went by, he got impressed with the mesmerizing personality of Stella. When Stella came to know about his problems, she didn’t feel sorry for him like most other but instead encouraged him to work even harder. One day when Daniel was sitting alone in the library she went to him as a uninvited guest and said, “ I must tell you that life has never been easy for me and it certainly is never easy for anyone but that doesn’t mean you don’t live it your way. I know you have so much going on in your life. You want to give a good life to your mother and give a sense of security to your baby sister but that does not mean you don’t have your own dreams.”
Daniel realized a minute later that he had not even asked her to join him for a cup of coffee. He stood up and was about to ask her to have a cup of coffee when he noticed something strange. Stella gave a nod to the waiter and said, “I will have a coffee and get another one for this young man here. He needs to gets a life.”
They became friends and were always together in the college. Daniel’s mother was Stella’s age but the way she lived her life was unbeatable.
Stella loved to put on makes up and she always had a smile on her face even when her health didn’t allow her to do so. She had changed Daniel’s life for good. He turned into a positive person who was now full of positivity. He was an inspiration for all. Girls looked up to her and boys appreciated her for her zeal.
Finally, the day came when Stella along with Daniel and many others said goodbye to college after completing their graduation. Stella had plans to study further but only a few days later she passed away. There were thousands of students all over her place to attend her funeral ceremony. They were there to pay a tribute to someone who taught them that age is only a state of mind and that your dreams strengthen your efforts. Daniel not only lost his only friend but he also lost someone who taught him the art to live a complete life.
Like Stella, you may find a few other people even in your surroundings who never let their age affect their dreams. They are the people who know the true meaning of live since they live their lives their way and set new standards for many others.
