How to deal with blisters

Blisters can be very irritating and itchy .They can appear as a result of fever, sun burn, stress, cold etc. Though they most often go away on their own, blisters can be removed faster at home through the use of several natural treatment methods, which will also speedup the healing process. Baking soda Baking soda is a great anti itching agent and treats inflammation on the skin, thereby drying the blisters naturally without the use of any medication of ointment. Take some baking soda and make it into a paste with water. Apply this paste on the blisters and leave it on. Apply as frequently as possible until the blisters start drying up. Baking soda helps in drying the blisters with continuous application. It also restores the pH balance of the skin, thereby preventing further outbreaks on the skin. Mixing baking soda along with salt and using it for washing the blister several times too will give great results as salt has anti inflammatory and healing properties as well along with antibacterial properties. Salt will reduce the setting in of infection and chances of blisters from spreading as well.

Oatmeal bath Oatmeal is high in nutrients and its vitamin E content helps in the healing process of the skin. High in antioxidants, it will also help in preventing free radical damage of the skin, while healing the blisters with every application. For external application if the blisters are very few, you can mix oatmeal with some water and apply on the blister directly. Let it stay for as much time as possible. For treating blisters all over the skin, take oatmeal powder and add two cups into a tub filled with warm water. Soak the body for half an hour in this water to treat the blisters. Make sure that you apply the oatmeal on the face or wash your face with oatmeal water if blisters are present on the face as well. In a few days, all blisters would have gone and skin will start healing.

Bandage treatment Covering the blisters will increase the healing time and can also cause bacteria to multiply uncontrollably. But, when you are out of the house, you do not have any option as blisters need to be protected from pollution and dust, which can aggravate the symptoms. In such cases, take a band aid and place it on the blister in such a way that the mid section is puckered so that it creates a covering around the blister without actually touching it. You can do this by placing the band aid and pushing the sides closer together from all directions. This will give the blister enough protection and also allow air to enter, making it heal faster without any infection.

Aloe vera Aloe vera is a powerful herbal remedy for treating all kinds of skin infections and inflammations. The goodness of aloe vera lies in the fact that it can not only take care of the blisters and the infections that could have set in, but also reduce the inflammation, aid in healing and also help in the regeneration of the skin that has damaged due to the blister formation. Being an antioxidant, it also protects the skin from free radical damage that can lead to malignant tumours. Blisters that are deep can sometimes lead to scarring of the skin which can be traumatising, especially when it is on the face. Application of aloe vera prevents skin scarring and keeps the skin supple and soft. Take pure aloe gel from the aloe plant and apply on the blisters, leaving it on and re applying every few hours. In a couple of days, the blister will start receding and soon it will dry and heal completely.

Turmeric and honey One of the simplest and best anti inflammatory, anti bacterial and healing agent, turmeric too has many benefits for the skin and keeps the skin free from blemishes and scarring after the blister had healed. Honey too has mild antiseptic properties and can prevent bacteria from entering the open wound. Honey is a wonderful healing agent as well. Take some freshly ground turmeric and add organic honey to it. Mix well to form a paste. Add more water for a spreadable consistency and apply on the blisters. Allow the paste to dry on the blisters. Apply a fresh coat every two hours. Continue until your blisters have all dried up. If there are blemishes and scars, continue applying turmeric until this too is taken care of. Turmeric and honey are specially good for treating blisters on the tongue which make chewing and eating difficult. Apply a coat on the tongue after you eat so that the bacterial action can be prevented.
