The many underlying advantages of recumbent bikes like enhanced safety, greater ergonomic comfort, and their aerodynamic profile; makes them the most desired bicycles and at times tricycles. Daniel Novy aspires to take the concept of recumbent bikes one step ahead with the HPV_2F. It is expected to give you a ride from one place to the other and also act as a recreational machine.
Man is the engine that powers the HVP_2F. The design of the tricycle offers a relaxed reclining position, which reduces the strain on the rider’s body. Bowden cables have been used for controlling the circuits and the breaks. Since, carbon fiber reinforced plastic is a good electrical conductor; it has been used for making all the components and permits better braking and switching. The two front wheels house dynamos that generate energy, while on the run. This energy gets stores in a small battery placed under the seat and supplies the required power.
Generally, foldable human powered vehicles have a complex steering kinematics, which makes the front axle rigid, but, the designer of this bike restructured the frame and used innovative materials to overcome this problem. He replaced the commonly used chain circuit with two belt drives, coupled via a planetary gear and installed them centrally as structural components. This would not only make the bike more lightweight, but also lend it a smoother folding mechanism.
The bike measures 1.85m in length and 0.80m in width, when in the driving mode. It can be folded by removing the rear wheel, after which it measures 92.5m in length and 55m in width. Easy to ride and easier to store, the futuristic approach of the bike will definitely be useful to mankind as well as nature.
