5 Rum-based cocktail recipes for a sublime punch

Rum and fruit juice mingle brilliantly to release extreme flavors

Rum is one of the oldest of distilled spirits in the world, however mixing rum has been a very recent affair. Rum is distilled from the extracted sugar cane juice, and in some cases is the by-product of molasses. It’s stored in charred oak casks and the process continues up to 30 years and beyond. Rum is mostly clear when it comes from the steel tank and is called white rum, while the one matured in oak casks has a caramel color and is popularly called dark rum. Here is a list of some cocktail recipes:

    1. Name of the dish: Mojito

    Time taken: 10 Minutes
    Ingredients

    2 parts White rum

    1 part Lime juice

    top up Soda water

    10 Mint sprigs

    1 part Ice cubes

    1 Lime slice

    1 teaspoon Sugar

    Process: Begin by mashing the mint and sugar together. Now add the dark or light rum (according to availability/taste), lime juice and pour it over the ice. Finally, serve it in a highball glass and garnish it with some mint leaves and rind of lime.

    2. Name of the dish: Pina

    Complexity level: Easy

    Time taken: 10 Minutes

    Ingredients:

    2 parts golden rum

    1 teaspoon cream of coconut

    dash of cream

    3 parts Pineapple juice

    1 Orange slice

    Process: Take all the ingredients and blend it well in a blender until smooth. Now pour it over ice in a frosted highball glass. Finally garnish it with a slice of pineapple.

    Ingredients

    1 part Gin

    3 parts White rum

    3 parts Dark rum

    1/2 part Amaretto Di Saronno

    top up Grapefruit juice

    dash of Grenadine

    top up Pineapple juice

    top up Orange juice

    5 Ice cubes

    1 Maraschino cherry

    Process: Begin by extracting the juice from half a lime into the shaker that already contains ice. Now pour all the other ingredients into the shaker and shake well. Finally, strain the mixture into a Hurricane Glass and serve it with a cherry and a slice of an orange.

    4. Name of the dish: Tropical Princess

    Complexity level: Easy

    Time taken: 10 Minutes

    Ingredients

    1 part White rum

    1/2 part Crème de cacao (white)

    1/2 part Passion fruit liqueur

    2 parts Pineapple juice

    1 Passion fruit juice

    1 Pineapple slice

    2 teaspoons Sugar syrup

    Process: Begin by putting all the ingredients into a shaker and shake well. Remember that the passion fruit juice should be fresh and contain seeds. Now strain it over ice in a Martini glass and garnish it with a pineapple leaf and pineapple wedge on the rim. You can also leave some passion fruit seeds floating on top.

    5. Name of the dish: Cuba Libre

    Complexity level: Easy

    Time taken: 10 minutes

    Ingredients:

    2 parts White rum

    Cola

    Dash of lime juice

    Ice cubes

    1 Lime rind

    Process: This is one of the easiest rum cocktail recipes and the most popular one. Fill a highball glass with ice and pour the rum and live juice. Top it with cola and stir well. Garnish it with a lime rind.
