Originally the land was set aside as a protected area by the governor of the Colony of Vancouver Island in 1858. Later, in 1882, the park was designated as a municipal park of the city and named for the two beacons on Mount Beacon.<\/p>\n<p>The hill has a cultural significance that it has been a burial site for the First Nations Coast Salish people who were the original inhabitants of the Greater Victoria region. The farm provides both an educational and economical form of entertainment for the whole family. It offers an awe-inspiring view of the Strait and the Olympic Mountains of Washington.<\/p>\n<p>You can see different species of birds inside the park including raccoons, river otters, squirrels, and many more. Moreover, the Beacon Hill Park includes ponds, which are popular for their swans, turtles, ducks, Canada geese, and blue herons.
