Marine audio is a new concept but many stereo systems can be used on this platform. The quality of the stereo systems can be transferred on a ship or boat. Some manufacturers also offer specialized products for boats which are customized to give better performance in harsh marine conditions.

Ways to design marine audio system:

Transferring the stereo audio systems to boat is not a daunting task if one follows following steps:

1. Geometrical analysis of the boat

It is first step for setting up a marine audio system. It includes surveying of the boat to locate the place away from water, where the audio system can be placed. Amplifiers can be fixed in the rear compartment of the boat, sub woofers can be fixed under the seats. Mid range and mid bass speakers can be placed in the side panels.

2. Preparing a final layout

After the analysis of the space on the boat to place the audio system, a final layout should be prepared. This can be done by taking the photos of the selected locations and measuring the dimensions.

3. Contacting the manufacturers

After preparing a final layout, one should contact an authorized manufacturer to discuss on a stereo system in accordance to the prepared layout and budget. Also, ask for the manufacturer’s opinion over the preferred stereo system and also for his prescription in accordance to the imposed conditions.

4. Processing the selection of the marine audio system

After discussing the manufacturer over the stereo product and before taking a final decision, it should be insured that the finally selected stereo system has following qualities:

a. Polypropylene coating

The finally chosen marine stereo system should have polypropylene coating as it will ensure that the stereo system is water proof as on the boat the audio system has to cope with attacks of water on one occasion, or the other.

b. PVC jacketed battery leads

Stereo systems with internally fused and PVC jacketed battery leads should be preferred as it provides more security to the audio system in case when water seeps inside.

c. Remote operation with sealed push buttons

Selecting a stereo system with sealed push buttons on the remote will ensure its protection along with the freedom of wireless control.

d. Low power draw

It should be made sure that the selected marine stereo system has low power consumption as there are few limitations for availability of power on the boat.

e. Digital amplification

Stereo systems have better performance in a packed environment so the stereo system selected for boat should have quality of digital amplification so as to maintain a given standard, intensity of the sound. Selecting a four channeled amplifier is a better option for open marine environment. Four channeled amplifiers also have dedicated circuit boards that enable the operator to run it for a longer interval of time. Neodymium magnets are also used by branded marine stereo systems to maximize efficiency.

5. Buying other accessories required for the operation of the stereo system

The fifth and the final step is selection of the other accessories required for the operation of stereo system. It includes:

a. A music player

Music player is one of the most important accessories for the marine audio system as it supplies it with the source of music. This music player can be a portable CD or DVD players or other high quality portable players.

b. Secondary power source

Including a secondary power source would ensure that the marine audio system don’t have any power concerns and one can enjoy music on marine audio system for an extended interval.

For designing marine audio systems, the above mentioned steps are a necessity to prevent any damage to the audio system. For efficient functioning, one must also follow the caution and guidelines of the manufacturer.
