Explore personal excellence - Live A Great Life Podcast by Dr Prem – Chapter. 67

Here is a quote – The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.

—Confucius

Believing that you always had and have amazing potential is sure to lead you to your success. Our goals become even more attainable when we are ready to work hard to realize them. When we believe in our capabilities, our conscious and subconscious beings come together to ruminate about numerous ways to maximize our potential. A sense of purpose seeps into our endeavors once we find our passion and utilize it to the hilt. It engenders the will to win and succeed and doesn’t allow one to put his feet up until the goal is well within reach. ‘Unlocking the door to personal excellence’ thus becomes possible when we exploit our potential and develop the habit of rejoicing in both small and big achievements.

Follow and learn from achievers, not slackers

How you set your priorities and choose your mentors to define the path you will finally select. If you wish to find your potential and reach it, follow those who have done something meaningful in their lives and for the society as well. Those who look at slackers can never reach their potential as both the direction and inspiration are flawed. Instead, you should closely observe those who believe in making a continuous effort.

Theories of fear, sacrifice and pain deserve mention here…

Several theories have repeatedly inspired individuals to find solutions to problems that sometimes make further progress nigh impossible for them. Theory of sacrifice is one such theory that states that unless we think beyond our present comforts and up the ante for us, we will keep languishing in the same state of inactivity. Since we never have a higher goal or the zeal to excel in our current exploits, we will never think of sacrificing current comforts and pushing our limits to achieve the next milestone.

Next, the theory of fear elucidates a plain truth about human efforts. The power of fear either prevents one from finding and reaching one’s potential or motivates him to try reenergizing his efforts. When exams approach nearer, a larger fraction of students pull up their socks to take the bull by its horns, while the less determined lot come out with all sorts of excuses to ditch their capabilities. Mahatma Gandhi says, ‘The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problem.’ Since we don’t try to overcome our fears, we continue with unproductive activities, doing a grave injustice to our capabilities.

Finally, we have the theory of pain that clearly directs towards our potential, consistency, and determination to prove our point. We need to utilize pain to our advantage since every pain opens a world of opportunities that promise overwhelming gains. Those who doubt their potential, strength, determination, and knowledge are fragile enough to crumble when the hammer of pain shakes their existence, designs, and efforts.
