Dr Prem's Guidebook - Medical Tourism

After extensive travel to over 25 medical tourism destinations, months of research and preparation, long nights of writing and exhaustive hours of editing, I have finally completed the first guidebook of my series. This guidebook is also my first venture as an author and wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the dedicated team of members that have worked tirelessly on this project.

This guidebook on medical tourism is a subject that I am very passionate about as I believe consumers should be presented with the most honest and accurate information about the industry to make the best decisions for their health. Therefore, I would like to pay a sincere thanks to my family, friends and colleagues that have supported me in bringing this informative initiative to medical tourists.

First and foremost, the guidebook is dedicated to you, the medical tourist. Reading scary news clips about patients suffering due to a bad medical tourism decision is something that invokes great emotion in me. I feel it is important for me to clarify that medical tourism doesn’t lead to complications, however, poor planning and preparation does. The lack of preparation guides for medical tourists urged me to write this guidebook so medical travelers can have better experiences when they seek healthcare abroad.

The motivation for taking this responsibility has come from the saying that holds a close place in my heart “Success is not about what you accumulate, it’s about what you contribute”. Therefore, I feel a responsibility in imparting my extensive knowledge on medical tourism to the readers.

The inspiration for taking this responsibility in my life has come from my father, a medical practitioner and spiritual guru; he has given nothing but the best to his family and the community. This book is a pure reflection of his idea’s of providing others assistance and knowledge allowing individuals to make the best decision for their health.

Obviously, this book would have not been possible without the encouragement and support from Janavi, my wife and best friend, and the apple of eyes Naman & Manan—my kids—as they allowed me to work till late night.

On the industry front, I would firstly like to thank the 159 medical tourism experts that were kind enough to participate in my research survey of the industry. This is has been truly important in laying the foundation of the book and shape my thought process of what I should focus on. Along with that I would also like to thank Steve Bannister for his support and editorial services during the compiling of the research report.

I would also like to extend my appreciation to Caroline Ratner for her dedication in helping me to conceptualize the structure and form of this book.

Next, I would sincerely show appreciation for Nivedita Nagpal, Ashish Chahdha and Sheshadri for all the hard work they have done researching important facts and providing me with the key content. I truly appreciate all the time and effort they have dedicated on this project.

I would like to show gratitude to Dr. Sejaal Shah that has worked endlessly on hundreds of medical tourism treatments/procedures for our procedure guide. Unfortunately this version of the book only contains 25 procedures but all her hard work is certainly appreciated, and the rest of the procedures will be available online and/or in a further guidebook of this series.

I want would like to send a big thank you to Muhammed and Naveed that have been essential in the designing and visually structuring the book. I wouldn’t be able to complete this project without you two and I genuinely appreciate all the hard work and long hours that you have dedicated to the guidebook.

Additionally, I am very grateful for the editors of this book: Selina Mirpuri and Susmita. Selina has been a wonderful addition to the team and has provided some great editorial revisions to the content. Susmita was a great help and I truly thank her for editing all the countries listed in our destination guide. Her wonderful travel background came in handy while working on the book and I appreciate her constructive criticisms.

I can’t complete this acknowledgement without thanking Jannat Amarnani. This book was able to be printed on time because of her relentless efforts. She was crucial in researching, organizing and compiling the entire book. She has been responsible for the book coming together and would like to sincerely thank her for the time and effort she has committed to this extensive project.

Last but not least, I would like to thank every medical tourism industry peer and friend who has met with me and shared their view on this wonderful and growing industry. Without such information and knowledge it was just not possible to create a comprehensive and authoritative guidebook. There direct and indirect support would never go unnoticed, and I remain thankful.
