Take destiny in your own hands and fortune will smile for you

Destiny in hand

So often you see lives wasted, men and women, their talents and lives withering away because they were not brave enough to follow the pursuit of happiness. Why is taking a step forward so hard? Are we so scared of failure? We need to tell ourselves everyday that the world is a better place because a few brave men were brave enough to discover civilizations or were brave enough to speak out against atrocities meted out to them and fellow human-beings. All of them spoke up and followed their dreams. Why should it be any different for the rest of us as well? History is created by a lot of brave men who took a chance and fought against destiny, they took destiny in their own hands and fortune smiled upon them.

Destiny

  • Acknowledge your dreams – Ask yourself why your dream is only a dream. Ask yourself why it cannot be a reality. Something tangible to hold and feel with your hands, isn’t that way better than just seeing it in your mind and fantasizing about it? Say yes to your dreams. Acknowledge them. Tell them and yourself that it is possible . Write it down in places where you can see them everyday , in memos, journals , post-its. When you see them everyday and tell yourself that you will pursue them, half the effort is covered. Nothing is stronger than a dream, nothing is sweeter than a dream achieved.
  • Seek inspiration – Nothing works better to motivate yourself than seeking inspiration . This can be in the form of a role- model or even something that you read on a poster. Follow the life of that role-model, take down the quote on that poster and take it home. So many people could muster up courage and sought out their dreams just because they were inspired. The world revolves around brave men. Civilizations would not have been formed had the explorers and adventurers not set out to discover countries and oceans. Columbus wanted to reach India, and he failed. But does the story end there? No, he went ahead to discover another continent which later came to be known as America.
  • Accept your fears – Ask yourself of what you are scared. What do you think the worst that could happen if you took action ? Will it be as bad as when you see someone else walking away with the prize and you just looking, cursing yourself for not taking action when you should have? Just ask yourself what if you HAD taken the plunge and made it. Imagine yourself in that situation. Face your fears and make an effort to get rid of them. Nothing can be worse than realization and regret in your later life that you could have made it but didn’t only because you were too scared.
  • Accept your individuality – You are one, you cannot be like the others. We are just made that way. Never feel let down because something worked in favor of someone else and not for you. Someday you will also be on the flip-side and that other person will be thinking the exact same thing. Accept that you are different, you will have your flaws . Work on them to build a stronger you, focus on your strong points. If you think you do not have what others have, just take a moment to think that even they might not have what you have. Everyone has their inhibitions and hesitations , never let an opportunity go just because you were not courageous enough to take action. Never let yourself think you are not good enough. So many people have seized opportunities, the sole reason being that they were confident.
  • Plan – Without a plan, a dream is only a wish. We wish for many good things in life, what needs to be done is to set a plan on how to achieve it and then execute it without any further delay. Keep a calm head , do you research and above all, be patient. Success can never come in a day. Be very focused in what you really want to do and make a clear path in order to achieve your dreams, for ‘ Person who chases two rabbits catches neither’. Detach yourself from frivolous pursuits of other things, have an unrelenting passion that never subsides towards what you want to achieve.
  • Step up –  Think of Mahatma Gandhi, think of Helen Keller. Each of them had several disadvantages but they never let any be a hindrance to what they had sought out to achieve when they started. Gandhi spoke up , was brave enough to do that to another powerful nation, a single man standing alone and he went ahead to lead an entire country to freedom. Helen Keller is recognized and applauded all over the world because this brave lady never let her physical disability be a factor in the pursuit of what she wanted to achieve. She was the first blind-deaf person to earn a Bachelor in Arts and went on ahead to be a political activist, writer and a lecturer, doing remarkably well in all fields.
