ObamaCare is a hot political issue and has spurred a lot of debate among the public at large. There are proponents and opponents for this health policy which will soon celebrate its third anniversary. Anyone familiar with America’s healthcare system would know that hospitals in the country range drastically in price. Each hospital puts up a different price list, leaving patients in great distress. Accordingly, ObamaCare was put in place to eliminate these price variations. This helped increase the number of Americans with health insurance as well as putting insurance providers in a position to negotiate better rates from hospitals.
ObamaCare has been designed with the aim of making the health care more effective, even if Americas have an insurance plan in place. This policy sees to it that the health of a family is placed as the first priority. It sees to it that family will have access to free preventive care as well as protecting consumers from abuses by insurance companies. The Affordable Care Act by ObamaCare holds insurance companies accountable for covering health costs of consumers, thereby putting a stop to abuses by the companies. Abuses by insurance companies include dropping insurance coverage when one gets sick or putting a cap on the coverage.
ObamaCare works well in the protection of women’s health issues. Currently, it is able to provide almost 47 million women with access to preventive health services. This policy also makes it illegal for hospitals to charge women a different rate from men. It also helps to put an end to health insurance companies’ practice of charging women more than men for the same coverage.
ObamaCare is built on the existing system of encouraging employer-based health care insurance. Companies that fail to ensure that their workers are insured would be worst hit by the rules underlying this new health care reform. There may be many companies which have just started up and trying to find their way around who may be able to obtain federal subsidies in their bid to help their employees. These subsidies which companies can tap will ensure that lower income families who are struggling to cope up with healthcare costs will be able to enjoy health services.
This health reform also helps strengthen Medicare. It will be more comprehensive such that it covers aspects like drug and alcohol rehabilitation and contraceptives. With this Medicare, people who are currently insured by other insurance plans can continue to be insured while taking up ObamaCare as well.
In the meantime, Obama has made it publicly clear in 2012 that ObamaCare will continue to be in effect and that if Americans were not confident with this plan, they were free to retain their existing ones.
