You must also realize that your efforts of getting pregnant are focused on a small window of time during which you ovulate. Ovulation is the process wherein a mature ovarian follicle discharges an ovum, or an egg that can later become a zygote, a fetus and consequently a baby. But most women think that determining ovulation is difficult. Well, it’s not! In this article we discuss about several known and unknown indicators of ovulation. These signs will help you determine your duration of high fertility, wherein you can have sex and increase your chances of conceiving.

1. Cervical Mucus changes

Your cervical mucus changes in amount and consistency when your ovulation approaches. Generally, when you aren’t ovulating, your cervical mucus is either absent or appears sticky and thick. But when ovulation approaches, your cervical mucus becomes abundant, has a watery consistency and if you touch it, it can stretch up to an inch or more between your fingers.

2. Increased Libido

As you approach ovulation, your sexual desire tends to increase. Women experience increased sexual desire when they are most fertile. This is nature’s natural way of telling you that this is the right time to have sex and get pregnant.

3. Changes in your cervix

The position and feel of your cervix will also undergo several marked changes during your menstrual cycle. As your ovulation approaches, your cervix becomes moister and softens. The cervical entrance will open so that the tip of cervix is lifted.

4. Breast Tenderness

As your ovulation approaches, the progesterone is secreted. The increase in progesterone hormone may cause increased breast and nipple sensitivity just before the ovulation. But this by no means an accurate indicator. Some women may feel tenderness just before the ovulation. Others may feel it right before the menstruation.

5. Changes in Basal Body temperature

Basal body temperature is your body temperature just after you get up in the morning. Prior to ovulation, your basal body temperature is between 96.0 to 98.0F. This is an indicator that you are nearing your ovulation. After the ovulation has occurred, your hormonal changes with raise the temperature by 0.5 to 1.5 degree. This will remain stable till your next period.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block; text-align:center;"
     data-ad-layout="in-article"
     data-ad-format="fluid"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-9477973674766713"
     data-ad-slot="8885944693"></ins>

6. Heightened sense of smell

Most of the women tend to have better sense of smelling, taste and vision prior to their ovulation. Many of them also feel a sudden burst of energy before ovulation.

7. Counting

If you have a stable menstrual cycle then counting days is an easy and effective way of tracking your ovulation. Through this method you can pinpoint the week in which you are most likely to ovulate and have sex during that duration. This will increase your chances of getting pregnant. But in case you have irregular cycles, then this method won’t really work.

8. Pain, bloating and spotting

About 20 percent of women experience pain in their lower abdomen when the egg moves out of the follicle and reaches ovary. Some of them can even predict the ovary from which ovum is discharged. This is called ‘Mittelschmerz’ and may also lead to slight pinkish tinge to your cervical mucus. Most of the women tend to feel bloated when they are ovulating. This is because ovulation tends to cause water retention.

9. Ovulation Predictor test

If you are ready to spend $10 to $20 to know accurately about ovulation, then ovulation predictor test is a good option for you. These kits work similar to the home pregnancy kits and register the presence of luteinizing hormone. But these tests are expensive and if you have an irregular menstrual cycle then you might have to use a lot of money to determine when you are ovulating.

10. Being perceived as attractive

If you are husband finds you more attractive at one point of the month, then this is probably the time you are ovulating. When you ovulate, you tend to look naturally beautiful. Although the difference is not huge, yet you or your partner can notice it. During ovulation, you tend to have fuller lips and your pupils dilate. You may look naturally appealing and may even have a subtle glow on your face.

Therefore, if you are planning on conceive, take a note of these signs and follow your body cycle. This will not just help you to know when you ovulate, but it will also bring you closer to your body. In case you have irregular menstrual cycle, then you must refer to a doctor and get yourself checked.

Recent Articles:

If you are trying to conceive, then you must know about the importance of ovulation.
