Let us have a look at a few of those great women who have not only brought a good name to the females all over the world, but also paved way for the upcoming generation. \u00a0\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0Althea Gibson<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>All the credit should officially go to the first person who paved the way for others. Long before Serena Williams, Althea Gibson (1927-2003) was the first woman who took everyone\u2019s heart away by her skills on tennis court. Althea was the first black woman ever to win the Grand Slam in 1956. Until this time, Tennis was actually considered a game of those who had white skin. She kept astonishing everyone and won six Grand Slam singles titles. Althea got a well-deserved number 1 ranking in the world from 1957-58. A golden ball was awarded to her at the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women\u2019s World Championship. Meet Dara Grace Torres, a twelve-time Olympic medalist and an American former competition swimmer. At the age of 40, in 2007 she won a Gold medal in 100-meter freestyle at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. At the age of 33, Torris was the oldest member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Swim Team and won five medals at the 2000 summer Olympics. Lottie Dod won her first Wimbledon Ladies Championship at an age of 15, and then won the championship three more times, a feaqt only a couple of people could achieve. Lottie has also played hockey at a national level for England. Despite her being diagnosed with Polio, Wilma earned three Gold medals in 1960 Olympics. During 1956-1962, Wilma not only made her own special identity but opened the doors for many coming along.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Babe Didrikson Zaharias<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Her extraordinary skills to master different sports like tennis, track and field, basketball, golf and baseball were quite enough to call her the world\u2019s Greatest Woman Athlete. Babe was nicknamed after baseball great \u201cbabe Ruth.\u201d She earned unmatched two gold medals and a silver medal in track and field at 1932 Olympics.
