The wrestle between the US supported government forces and the paramilitary groups propped up by drug syndicates over the plant source of <strong>cocaine<\/strong> is forcing the <strong>Nukak Maku tribe <\/strong>to dislocate and migrate from their natural habitat.<\/p>\n<p>A case study released by the rights groups brings in to focus the plight of Nukak Maku tribe caused by extension of the ongoing <strong>drug conflict<\/strong> to their haunt. The ethnic group, for a millennium, has been living a <strong>nomadic life <\/strong>in the tropical Amazon forests of southern Colombia. A petite swath of land on the right bank of the <strong>Guaviare River<\/strong> is their home. They still earn their livelihood by hunting, fishing and gathering berries. But with the extension of Colombia&#8217;s <strong>drug war <\/strong>to this hitherto undisturbed Amazon lands that sustain the tribe, a question mark is being put on their existence.<\/p><div class=\"38520354a5201685ddf480eec688e1a7\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9477973674766713\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8885944693\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Fights between coca-plant-growing colonists, left-wing guerrillas, right-wing paramilitaries and Colombian antidrug troops are escalating in the tribe&#8217;s country. The projected 500 Nukaks left who established <strong>first contact <\/strong>with the society only in 1988, are trapped in the crossfire. The <strong>constant pressure <\/strong>to support the rival parties has begun to take toll of the tribe. Even one of their leaders was forced to <strong>commit suicide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luis Evelis Andrade<\/strong> of Organizacion Nacional Indigena de Colombia (ONIC), an indigenous-rights group trying to save the tribe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The guerilla groups think [the Nukak] are collaborators with the government, and the government troops think they are collaborating with the guerillas,This has meant murders, threats, kidnappings, and blockades of food and medicine that have nearly destroyed the Nukak.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The situation has worsened to such an extent that last March some 120 Nukak marched half-naked out of the jungle begging for food and safety.
