I&#8217;m talking of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sir_David&#039;s_Long-beaked_Echidna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>long-beaked echidna<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; the native to the island of New Guinea in the South Pacific &#8212; one of the world&#8217;s rarest creatures.<\/p>\n<p>With its meat found to be very greasy and extremely tasty, the egg-laying, spiny mammal <strong>proves not just its being alive but also well and healthy<\/strong>. This is perhaps for the first time any scientist is seeing one alive.<\/p>\n<p>The mammal closely related to the platypus, is thought to live on only one mountain peak in New Guinea&#8217;s Cyclops Mountains. <strong>The one specimen of the mammal that was believed to exist, was last seen in 1961, now a show-piece in a Netherlands museum.<\/strong><\/p><div class=\"38520354a5201685ddf480eec688e1a7\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9477973674766713\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8885944693\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p><strong>What provided the researchers with the clue of its existence are their &#8216;feeding holes&#8217; or &#8216;nose-pokes&#8217;<\/strong> &#8211; which they create hunting for worms &#8212; at altitudes of only 985 feet. The large number of their presence assured of the mammal&#8217;s thriving.<\/p>\n<p>Excited about the finding, Jonathan Baillie, a conservationist with the Zoological Society of London and who led the expedition said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It gives us hope that many more echidnas live higher up the mountain.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>But, the challenge of assuring their future existence lies with the scientists&#8217;
