They are basically citing some scientists who have argued that the recent climate changes and natural calamities have not been caused by the so called global warming. But whatever they say, the truth is that the climate is definitely changing and all of us can feel it. Although the overall effect is debatable, the rampant deforestation and pollution surely has a role to play in this unpleasant development. That is why the G8 nations have agreed to cut the emission of greenhouse gases to half by 2050 in a recent summit held in Kobe, Japan. This is a welcome step as being the group of developed nations they are supposed to set such positive examples.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nSo is the &#8216;political will&#8217; enough?<\/strong><\/p><div class=\"38520354a5201685ddf480eec688e1a7\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9477973674766713\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8885944693\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>The G8 leadership has used very careful language in the statement. They have expressed &#8216;political will&#8217; to cut green house gases but have not vowed anything concrete. This is what has been happening over the years, right from the days of Rio <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Earth_Summit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Earth Summit<\/a> in 1992.  Talks have been converted to action on very rare occasions. To some extent, it is understandable as we know that bulk of the pollution is caused by the industry which is directly related to the national economy in any country. So in case the economy gets affected and the general population suffers, the political leadership is bound to be overthrown. That is why the so called &#8216;political will&#8217; has remained only in papers so far as a politician&#8217;s vision is myopic in most of the cases. The earth\u2019s temperature has increases by 0.74 \u00b1 0.18 \u00b0C over the last hundred years. So this target of 2050 may actually be too late and all the icebergs might melt even before that! This initiative is heartening, but let\u2019s hopes that they stick to their words and the developing nations also follow suit.
