It uses a parabolic trough solar collector, which is compact and at the same time an efficient design to produce ice, without using any moving parts, fuel or electric input. Firstly, during the day the heat from the sun is used to generate liquid ammonia refrigerant and secondly, during the night the action is reversed, that is, the generator is cooled by thermosyphon and ice is formed as ammonia is reabsorbed to the generator.
