It will house a staff of 740 employees of NREL and the Department of energy. NREL is the federal government\u2019s primary research facility for renewable energy and energy efficiency, and is part of the energy department.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"nrel 1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greendiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/nrel-1_Jg6gr_23302.jpg\" alt=\"nrel 1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nThe Building<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The green building will:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Incorporate the concepts of safe design into the planning, design, construction, and operation of the facility<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u2022 Meet the Platinum certification as defined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Green Buildings Council<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leadership_in_Energy_and_Environmental_Design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)<\/a> Green Building Rating System<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Meet the requirements of the workforce of today and future<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Provide the lowest attainable energy use per square foot<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Provide an architectural image that is consistent with the site and NREL&#8217;s identity.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"nrel 3\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greendiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/nrel-3_NN2pt_23302.jpg\" alt=\"nrel 3\" \/><\/p><div class=\"38520354a5201685ddf480eec688e1a7\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9477973674766713\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8885944693\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p><strong>Funding<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NREL is receiving funding from the stimulus funds from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Department of Energy<\/a>. It will be granted $193 million for construction projects and wind-energy research.<\/p>\n<p>The funding is to be split for two purposes, the first share going to National Renewable Energy Lab to pay for construction of new buildings and improvements at the Golden campus and the second share going for wind energy research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Once completed, this research facility will dramatically expand NREL\u2019s capacity for renewable energy research. The facility will be equipped with the latest technologies to reduce energy consumption, a model for future buildings across America.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 It will reduce America\u2019s dependence on fossil-fuel based energy sources.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 It will be a boon for the state economy.
