Six of Kingston University\u2019s final -year engineering students have constructed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alternative-energy-news.info\/technology\/battery-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">battery<\/a>-powered bike, which will compete in the world&#8217;s first zero-emissions Grand Prix this summer.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThe Kingston team will race with 24 eco-bikes from India, America, Italy, Germany and Austria at 2009 Isle of Man TTXGP. Under the guidance of Paul Brandon (Course director for motorsport and motorcycle) the work on the bike began last October.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The main features of the bike:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 It runs on non- fossil fuel<br \/>\n\u2022 It has no internal combustion engine, no exhaust system and no fuel tank<br \/>\n\u2022 Average of 70 mph around the course<br \/>\n\u2022 72- volt battery with vehicle efficiency of 90%<br \/>\n\u2022 Speed of 102 mph, with about 38 miles on mountainous terrains<br \/>\n\u2022 The bike is motorized by batteries which can be charged from standard household socket<br \/>\n\u2022 Carbon dioxide generated to charge the batteries are reduced by 50% as compared to petrol- power bikes<\/p><div class=\"38520354a5201685ddf480eec688e1a7\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9477973674766713\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8885944693\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>When the competition will take place on June 12, TT veteran Maria Costello is set to ride Kingston\u2019s machine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2009 Isle of Man TTXGP<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"contentImage\" title=\"\">\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JPE0-lWFfpI&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1]<\/p>\n<div class=\"imgContent\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On 12th June 2009, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.im\/tourism\/events\/ttxgp.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TTXGP<\/a>, the world\u2019s first zero emission Superbike race will take place. This race will be held on Isle of Man TT circuit. The candidates have shown their ability in building the unique prototype machines. The excitement regarding the alternative forms of transport and clean energy consumption has produced this major international supporting event. The systems in these bikes include power trains, ergonomics and energy storage systems.
