Each day someone or the other comes up with a new green concept. I would like to ask you: Do you really know how your personal choices are adding up? How well are people around the globe adopting behaviors that can make the world a sustainable place?<\/p>\n<p>In order to give people a better idea of how consumers throughout the globe are performing in taking action to preserve our planet by tracking, reporting, and promoting environmentally sustainable consumption and citizen behavior, a Greendex survey was conducted by the National Geographic Society and international polling firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globescan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GlobeScan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Greendex survey<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The second annual Greendex survey researched 17,000 adults online in 17 countries to determine consumer attitudes and their behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers in India, Brazil and China scored the highest for a second year in a row, for their green behavior. Americans scored the lowest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The overall findings of the survey are given in the figure below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greendiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/greendex_2Dqyo_23302.jpg\" alt=\"greendex\" title=\"greendex\" \/><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong><\/p>\n<p>Why India Tops the list?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Factors contributing to the high ranking of India include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  24% consume chicken, 21% consume fish and sea food and 13% consume beef. Consumers in India rarely consume meat including<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greendiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/green1_FYRHe_23302.jpg\" alt=\"green1\" title=\"green1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2022  41% have home heating and 28% have hot running water in their homes.<\/p><div class=\"38520354a5201685ddf480eec688e1a7\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: none; margin:10px 0 10px 0; text-align:center;\">\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n     data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9477973674766713\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8885944693\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>\u2022  A high incidence of Indians use on-demand electric water heating.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  15% use solar energy to heat water<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  34% purchase \u201cgreen\u201d electricity<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  74% own motorcycles or motor scooters, the most of all consumers surveyed. Relatively few own vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  35% eat self-grown food several times a week or daily, the most of all surveyed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  48% avoid excessive packaging regularly just like Germans and Australian consumers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why are Americans lagging behind?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022  Americans score the lowest percentage on public transit use every day<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  Only 58% drive alone<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  61% never use public transport, folks never taking public transit.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greendiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/green_npJa7_23302.jpg\" alt=\"green\" title=\"green\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2022  55% reside in homes with 7 rooms or more. They have the lowest score on the green housing index.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022  Americans ranked lowest in the list of countries eating locally grown food<\/p>\n<p>The best green customers are people with more spendable income. As a result, the most promising green products have a propensity to be at the higher end of the market. The potential outlets for green products are retail stores frequently visited by better-off shoppers.<\/p>\n<p>In general, green consumers have the education and intellectual orientation to appreciate value; they understand evidence that is presented in support of environmental claims<\/p>\n<p>Well-informed consumers are emerging as a new tool in the global struggle to create an environmentally sustainable world.
