Each year, the BU produces 5,000 gallons of cooking oil waste. First, the MCEBA requires a minimum percentage of biofuel as component of all diesel fuel and home heating fuel sold in the Commonwealth. Second, the reused cooking oil produces 70% less greenhouse emissions and is cheaper when compared to petroleum heating oil, says National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
