This sickness is due to the imbalance of the estrogen levels in their body. A similar case of nausea is also reported in some women who are under the hormone replacement therapy. In most of them nausea begins during gestational age (first 14 days) of pregnancy and may continue to 3 months. But in few cases, it may go up to the time of delivery. In most of them it is experienced badly in the morning and it eases up over the rest of the day. Others face this problem at any time of the day where it lasts all day long.

Causes

The actual cause of nausea is still not known. Researchers believe that it may be due to the result of some physiological changes occurring in the body. Some of the changes may be:

1. Due to the rapid increase in the level of the Human Chronic Gonadotropin hormone.

2. Another suspicion is that it may be due to the increase in the level of the estrogen.

3. Due to the sensitivity to odors which make the pregnant women overwhelmed.

4. Due to the lower blood sugar level.

5. May be due to heredity.

6. Women’s gastrointestinal tracts are more sensitive to changes of early pregnancy.

7. Increased fatigue where stress and emotions play a vital role in contributing for the cause.

8. Increased liver enzymes result in the increase of bilirubin level.

9. Increase in the progesterone level leading to the relaxation of the muscles in the uterus, stomach and intestine resulting in excess stomach acids.

Symptoms

As we have discussed earlier, the symptoms may vary from person to person. However excessive vomiting leads to dehydration. Hyper emesis gravid arum a frightening syndrome as it sounds is rare in pregnant women and can be treated. It is seen in 1 out of every 300 pregnant women. If it is left untreated it leads to nausea, vomiting, weight loss, liver damage and electrolyte disturbance.

Dehydration results in passing of small amounts of urine or no urine at all. The urine may be dark indicating the presence of the ketenes. Dehydration if not treated earlier leads to weight loss, necessary fluid loss and malnutrition. The developing embryo may be deprived of essential nutrition.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block; text-align:center;"
     data-ad-layout="in-article"
     data-ad-format="fluid"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-9477973674766713"
     data-ad-slot="8885944693"></ins>

Measures for coping with Morning sickness

1. Have plenty of sleep at night. Also try to have a nap during the day.

2. As soon as you wake up, before getting out of bed eat some crackers and slowly get up.

3. Eat light meals at frequent intervals so that you do not feel hunger all the time.

4. Do not eat much which makes the stomach heavy.

5. Avoid intake of spicy, fried and fatty foods.

6. Keep your windows always open to allow fresh air so that odors of food stuff do not trouble you.

7. During the daytime drink small amounts of fluids.

8. Avoid drinking water immediately before and after meals.

9. Having wrist bands around your wrist activates the acupressure point which triggers nausea.

10. Eating cold food kept at room temperature as hot food releases strong aroma.

11. Relaxation is important. Have brisk walk and exercise regularly.

12. Have a nap off and on during the day.

13. Engage yourself by visiting some of your friends and relatives.

14. Include supplements of vitamins in your diet.

15. Sniff freshly cut lemons that reduce nausea.

16. Chamomile, garlic, pumpkin seeds and raspberry seeds are some of the herbal remedies to battle nausea.

17. Limited intake of alcohol and caffeine.

18. Do not move suddenly. Start early if you are planning to go out.

19. Avoid brushing your teeth immediately after food as this compels you to vomit.

20. Avoid smoking as it interferes in the development of the organs of the fetus.

21. Do not skip meals.

Clinical research has proven effectively the medication of a combination of anti histamine called doxylamine and vitamin B6 in the treatment of morning sickness. There are no harmful effects experienced by the baby.

Although these measures for you are by trial and error, if none of these seem to work you must consult a doctor immediately.

On the basis of their dominant theories, biologists believe Nausea in pregnancy does more good by guarding both the pregnant woman and the developing embryo. From all these discussions we conclude that morning sickness is not an illness but a form of evolutionary insurance.

Recent Articles:

Morning sickness or nausea is commonly noticed in more than 70% of the pregnant women.
