How can parent access progress book of their child from school?

I am a father to a 16 years older boy. Lately I have been seeing that his mind is not on studies but somewhere else. He just keeps on thinking on something for hours. I have also witnessed sudden change into his mood these days. There are lots of things going into my mind as far as he is concerned. I fear that he does not show his progress book also to us and make pretexts by saying that it has not been provided yet. I wish to know that how can parent access progress book of their child from school? I also do not want to let him know beforehand.
