Our troubled lives often leave us with a desire to be by ourselves in a hope to attain peace and quiet. When nothing works, meditation could be the only solution for a peaceful escape. Aaron Westgate has built a special place where you can relax, which he calls the Meditation Temple. This small one-person temple is a beautiful portrayal of micro-architecture and material re-use.
The Meditation Temple is made from salvaged materials. The walls are made by piling chunks of 2×4s and corbelled masonry. It has a sleek shingled rooftop that has corrugated galvanized steel hand-flattened and trimmed over it, and tension-reinforced rafter-tail cutoffs form the distinct conical cover. This intelligently built eco-friendly temple cost Aaron Westgate a mere $28 to make. If you too wish to make one for yourself, take ideas from the Yestermorrow Design/Build School.
