It is that time of the year, when you feel the need to redecorate your home again. Nice idea. But make sure you take a cue from previous mistakes and don’t commit these home decoration don’ts again.
Just because a furniture piece looks beautiful and roomy in the store does not mean it would look the same in your home. Your home (at least the room you plan to keep the furniture in) would definitely not be show room size. As such, chances are the furniture piece may make the room look cramped. So measure the space you have allotted for the furniture in the room before shopping for it.
Buying Matching Sets:
You may like how a particular sofa in the showroom looks good with the ottoman, center table, side chair, love seat and other pieces kept nearby. However, the same pieces may not complement each other in your home or look mismatched. So never opt for matching sets. Alternatively, opt for single pieces you can later mix and match with other furniture pieces in the room to create interesting design patterns.
Choosing Paint Colors in Stores:
Always pick paint colors under natural light as opposed to picking them up under artificial lights in a store. Otherwise, your walls would most probably end up in a color much different than the one you chose in the shop. Try this trick. Poke a hole in a white paper and view the paint color from behind the hole to get a clear perspective of how it would look on the walls.
Choosing too many Wall Colors:
Of course, every member in the family would have his/her own favorite color he/she would want to paint his/her room with. However, too many paint colors in the walls would create visual tension and distraction, not to mention making the home look cluttered and messy as well. So stick to minimal color options, maybe one neutral color and 2-3 colors for accents for that visually pleasing, inviting look you want to achieve.
Using Itty-Bitty Pots for Greenery:
While a single, large plant would make a room look airy and comfy, adding too many pots in varying shapes and sizes in the same room would make it look cluttered and messy. So ditch the small planters and opt for a single indoor plant to get that green look.
Homeowners tend to commit some of the most common home decoration mistakes. So make sure you do your homework, and consider these pointers before starting your next home re-decoration project.
