It means to celebrate in such a way so that we can contribute positively to our environment. When we celebrate with a consciousness of being environment friendly, it is surely double the fun. 1. Choosing Eco-friendly gifts

We always tend to give gifts that look glitzy and glamorous from outside. Most of the time, the gift does not have any utility or is of poor environmental value, sometimes both. So we should choose gifts that are Eco-friendly by nature. Chocolate or coffee can be gifted as likely gifts. The reason is that they are used up and do not remain in any threatening form in the environment. These days there are many shops that cater to recycled goods. One can buy showpieces or other gift items made up of recycled paper, glass or plastic. Most of these recycled goods actually look very cool and funky.

Sometimes, gifts like reusable plastic bags and water bottles can also be given. It helps in reducing waste products. Also, in a larger context, manufacturing and transportation costs and resources are also reduced. It also saves the landfill space.

Also, one can donate in cash instead of showing fake kindness when there is a cause involved. Lots of people nowadays do socially relevant charitable works. Such persons will be happier, if they get a donation for charity. Also, cash can be given to old people who do not have any more materialistic cravings.

2. Green wrappers

All of us believe that no matter how pricey the gift is, the wrapper should be very colorful and glittering. After all, most people like to judge the gifts by its wrapper! Jokes apart. Instead of wasting money on wrapping paper for our gifts, we can ourselves wrap it in newspapers or colorful magazines. The glossy pages of a magazine can also be a suitable wrapper. One can also use fabric products to wrap gifts. Pieces of clothes, scarfs can be nice wrappers to gifts, if chosen.

3. Careful decorations

We all like to lighten our homes and areas whenever there is a celebration. After all, bright light denotes something auspicious in the home. But most of the lights can eat up a lot of electrical energy. Hence, energy-efficient lamps and LED lights must be used for decorating purposes. Also, we need to make some behavioral changes. We should turn off these lights at night before going to bed. If we are out of home, we should not forget to switch them off too. If candles are used, natural ones should be used instead of those that make use of petroleum products.

4. Cards with care

If we really care for the ones to whom we send a greeting, we should avoid to buy cards. Instead, we should make one ourselves by recycling old cards. One can cut the pictures from the old cards to make a new one. It is even better to follow the new trend of going paperless. E-cards are more efficient means of Eco-friendly communication.

5. Remember the 3 Rs: Reduce, reuse and recycle

On any celebration or event, one should take personal care to find ways and means to reduce waste. If you get gifts which you have no use of, you should try to give them to someone who might have a use of that. It can then be reused. One should also recycle products to make new gift items. People will surely appreciate such gifts more.

So just remember all these points while you are planning your next new year party or someone’s birthday party. Let us do our part in keeping the earth safe and clean for a long time to come.
