Reforms have been made with the efforts of The Human Tissue Act (Scotland)<\/strong> regarding the procedures for donating organs. Under it, the consent of the person will be considered who is registered to donate organs, irrespective of the refusal by the family members. <\/p>\n

According to the Deputy Health Minister Lewis Macdonald, more patient lives will be saved who are waiting in organ transplant register. Donor’s wishes are to be considered by this new act. Thus, by giving effect to people wishes the act can prove to be effective.<\/p>\n

Highlights<\/strong> of the New Act<\/strong>: <\/p>\n

Increase in registration of people, in turn more organs for transplantation.<\/p>

Authorization of post-mortem only to be considered by the donor when is alive or with the consent of nearest relative. <\/p>\n

Permission of parents will be needed if the child is below 12 years of age.<\/p>\n

A person breaching the law is fined or to be imprisoned.<\/p>\n
