FDA (Food and Drug Administration)<\/strong> has permitted a Massachusetts company to sell 4,000 artificial hearts<\/strong> annually, in spite of actual number of implantations of device from 25 to 50 per year.<\/p>\n

It is astonishing that the device also called ‘AbioCor<\/strong>‘ has been tested only on 14 men. Out of which two died, one remained in unconscious condition and rest survived for average five months.<\/p>\n

Besides this, the device neglects<\/strong> women heart patient from heart implantation due to its large size to be fitted in women. The company planned to develop a small and long-lasting version of the device.<\/p>

Now the company is redesigning the device to prevent its contact with human tissue, which proved to be the cause of strokes in the earlier tested patients. Some patients are planned to be treated with blood thinning<\/strong> drugs<\/strong> also. But it is uncertain whether mechanical pump to be insured<\/strong> as its inferred cost goes heavily to $250,000.
