\nThe worlds only flying eye hospital<\/strong> run by Orbis, an international non-profit organization will be in India<\/strong> for two weeks from March 30 – April 12<\/strong> to train hundreds of eye care personnel and also perform surgeries on hundreds of blind people.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Orbis is focusing on preventing blindness in developing countries, operates the flying hospital on a converted McDonnell Douglas DC-10 jet<\/strong> that has been traveling for 25 years and has treated more than four million people in 80 countries.<\/p>\n

The aircraft has operation theaters, patient waiting space, a consultation room, a technical support area and a training room.<\/strong><\/p>

India has the world’s largest blind population<\/strong> and has only one eye surgeon per 100,000 people<\/strong> and because of the country’s limited infrastructure, about 75% of the blind people, mostly children suffer from blindness which could have been prevented if treated on time.<\/p>\n

The mission of Orbis is to train more and more eye care personnel especially in pediatric ophthalmology so that every one has access to adequate eye-care on time and thereby prevent blindness which can be avoided. <\/strong><\/p>\n

We train the trainers and we hope this ripple effect will benefit millions of blind people in India<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
