Consult a physician to understand the limits for you. Reduce Intake calories to steadily bring your weight in check and maintain it. A Body Mass Index (BMI) of 18.5-24.9 should be your target range to prevent obesity related diseases.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Red Meat- <\/strong>Limit red meat consumption to 1-2 times per week. Instead, choose lean poultry and seafood in your diet.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sodium- <\/strong>Reducing intake of Sodium in your diet will help in keeping blood pressure in check. Reduce the amount of salt used in your food to reduce the intake of Sodium. Taste your food before adding seasoning. Normal blood pressure reduces strain on the kidneys keeping them healthy and functioning well.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Protein- <\/strong>Protein helps build muscle, reconstruct tissue and also combat infections. However, excess protein can build up waste is your blood. Controlling the amount of protein in your diet reduces the amount of waste kidneys have to remove. It is important to know how much protein one needs on a daily basis. A general rule is 0.8 grams\/ kg of body weight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Potassium-<\/strong>Potassium is important for the muscles. Too much or too little Potassium can be harmful. Again, how much Potassium you need will depend from individual to individual and your dietitian should be able to tell you about your needs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Calcium- <\/strong>Usually, good sources of Calcium are also good sources of Potassium. Have a word with your physician before taking any Vitamin D supplements. Research shows that populations that use olive oil in their daily diet have lower risks of heart diseases and cancer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fruits and veggies- <\/strong>Be sure to include fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Prefer whole meal biscuits and fruits for snacks. Choose whole meal bread over white bread. High amounts of fruits and vegetables make your urine less acidic, reducing chances of Kidney stone formation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lots of Oral Fluids- <\/strong>Increasing the amount of fluid intake will help keep the urine dilute with respect to minerals and other wastes. This will improve kidney function and prevent kidney stones formation. However, excessive fluid intake is not good either. 4-4.5 liters of water a day is what you should aim for.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most people acquire all the vitamins and minerals they need from their daily diet. However, you need to put a cap on some foods because you have unhealthy kidneys. In this case, you may need to take additional supplements to balance your diet.
